اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ بَعَثَ لَكُمْ طالُوتَ مَلِكاً قالُوا أَنَّى يَكُونُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ عَلَيْنا وَ نَحْنُ أَحَقُّ بِالْمُلْكِ مِنْهُ قَالَ لَمْ يَكُنْ مِنْ سِبْطِ النُّبُوَّةِ وَ لَا مِنْ سِبْطِ الْمَمْلَكَةِ قالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفاهُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَ قَالَ إِنَّ آيَةَ مُلْكِهِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَكُمُ التَّابُوتُ فِيهِ سَكِينَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَ بَقِيَّةٌ مِمَّا تَرَكَ آلُ مُوسى وَ آلُ هارُونَ فَجَاءَتْ بِهِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ تَحْمِلُهُ وَ قَالَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ ذِكْرُهُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مُبْتَلِيكُمْ بِنَهَرٍ فَمَنْ شَرِبَ مِنْهُ فَلَيْسَ مِنِّي وَ مَنْ لَمْ يَطْعَمْهُ فَإِنَّهُ مِنِّي فَشَرِبُوا مِنْهُ إِلَّا ثَلَاثَمِائَةٍ وَ ثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا مِنْهُمْ مَنِ اغْتَرَفَ وَ مِنْهُمْ مَنْ لَمْ يَشْرَبْ فَلَمَّا بَرَزُوا قَالَ الَّذِينَ اغْتَرَفُوا لا طاقَةَ لَنَا الْيَوْمَ بِجالُوتَ وَ جُنُودِهِ وَ قَالَ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يَغْتَرِفُوا كَمْ مِنْ فِئَةٍ قَلِيلَةٍ غَلَبَتْ فِئَةً كَثِيرَةً بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ وَ اللَّهُ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ.


Translation

<a id="_Toc492473629">H 14946</a> – Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Muhammad Bin Khalid, and Al-Husayn Bin Sa’d, from Al-Nazar Bin Suweyd, from Yahya Al-Halby, from Haroun Bin Kharjat, from Abu Baseer, who has narrated the following: <span class="first-chapter-phrase"><span class="first-in-chapter character-a">A</span>bu Ja’far</span><sup>asws</sup> regarding the Statement of Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic: <span class="ibTxt">“<a href="/#/books/quran:2#h247"><a href="/books/quran:2#h247">[2:247]</a></a> And their prophet said to them: Surely Allah has raised Talut to be a king over you. </span>He<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘He<sup>as</sup> was neither from the grandsons of the Prophets<sup>as</sup> nor was he<sup>as</sup> from the grandsons of the kings’. <span class="ibTxt">He said: Surely Allah has chosen him in preference to you”</span>. And Said: <span class="ibTxt">“<a href="/#/books/quran:2#h248"><a href="/books/quran:2#h248">[2:248]</a></a> And the prophet said to them: Surely the sign of His kingdom is, that there shall come to you the chest in which there is tranquillity from your Lord and residue of the relics of what the children of Musa and the children of Haroun have left, the angels bearing it”</span>. And Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Said: <span class="ibTxt">“<a href="/#/books/quran:2#h249"><a href="/books/quran:2#h249">[2:249]</a></a> Surely Allah will try you with a river; whoever then drinks from it, he is not of me, and whoever does not taste of it, he is surely of me, </span>So they drank from it except for three hundred and thirteen men. From them were those who drank, and those who did not drink. So when it was time for duel, the ones who had drunk <span class="ibTxt">they said: We have today no power against Jalut and his forces. </span>And those who did not drink <span class="ibTxt">said: How often has a small party vanquished a numerous host by Allah's permission, and Allah is with the patient”</span>.
