John Shaqi

أَفْطَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) عَشِيَّةَ خَمِيسٍ فِي مَسْجِدِ قُبَا فَقَالَ هَلْ مِنْ شَرَابٍ فَأَتَاهُ أَوْسُ بْنُ خَوَلِيٍّ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ بِعُسِّ مَخِيضٍ بِعَسَلٍ فَلَمَّا وَضَعَهُ عَلَى فِيهِ نَحَّاهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ شَرَابَانِ يُكْتَفَى بِأَحَدِهِمَا مِنْ صَاحِبِهِ لَا أَشْرَبُهُ وَ لَا أُحَرِّمُهُ وَ لَكِنْ أَتَوَاضَعُ لِلَّهِ فَإِنَّ مَنْ تَوَاضَعَ لِلَّهِ رَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ وَ مَنْ تَكَبَّرَ خَفَضَهُ اللَّهُ وَ مَنِ اقْتَصَدَ فِي مَعِيشَتِهِ رَزَقَهُ اللَّهُ وَ مَنْ بَذَّرَ حَرَمَهُ اللَّهُ وَ مَنْ أَكْثَرَ ذِكْرَ الْمَوْتِ أَحَبَّهُ اللَّهُ .


Translation

Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Abdul Rahman Bin Al Hajjaj, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> having said: ‘Rasool-Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> broke his<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> Fast in the evening of Thursday in Masjid Quba. So he<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> said: ‘Is there anything to drink?’ So Aws Bin Howly came to him<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> with some buttermilk with honey. So when he<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> placed it upon his<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> mouth, set it aside, then said: ‘Two drinks, one can be sufficed from its counterpart. I<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> neither drink it nor do I<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> prohibit it, but I<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> am being humble to Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup>, for the one who is humble to Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup>, Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup> would Elevate him, and the one who is arrogant, Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup> would Downgrade him; and the one who is economical in his life, Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup> would Grace him; and the one who is a spendthrift, Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup> would Deprive him; and the one who is frequent in remembering the death, Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup> would Love him’.
