لَمَّا اسْتَسْقَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) وَ سُقِيَ النَّاسُ حَتَّى قَالُوا إِنَّهُ الْغَرَقُ وَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) بِيَدِهِ وَ رَدَّهَا اللَّهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَ لَا عَلَيْنَا قَالَ فَتَفَرَّقَ السَّحَابُ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اسْتَسْقَيْتَ لَنَا فَلَمْ نُسْقَ ثُمَّ اسْتَسْقَيْتَ لَنَا فَسُقِينَا قَالَ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُ وَ لَيْسَ لِي فِي ذَلِكَ نِيَّةٌ ثُمَّ دَعَوْتُ وَ لِيَ فِي ذَلِكَ نِيَّةٌ .

علی بن ابراہیم نے اپنے والد سے، انہوں نے ابن ابی عمیر سے، انہوں نے ہشام بن الحکم سے، انہوں نے ابی عبداللہ (علیہ السلام) سے روایت کی، آپ نے فرمایا: جب رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ) نے بارش کی دعا کی اور لوگوں کو سیراب کیا گیا یہاں تک کہ انہوں نے کہا 'یہ تو غرقاب ہے!' اور رسول اللہ نے اپنے ہاتھ سے اشارہ کرتے ہوئے فرمایا: 'اے اللہ! ہمارے اطراف میں، ہم پر نہیں!' پس بادل منتشر ہو گئے۔ تو انہوں نے عرض کیا: 'یا رسول اللہ! آپ نے ہمارے لیے پہلی بار بارش کی دعا کی تو ہمیں سیراب نہ کیا گیا، پھر آپ نے دعا کی تو ہمیں سیراب کیا گیا۔' آپ نے فرمایا: 'میں نے پہلی بار دعا کی تو اس میں میری نیت نہیں تھی، پھر میں نے دعا کی تو اس میں میری نیت تھی۔'
Translation
Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Hisham Bin Al Hakam, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> having said: ‘When Rasool-Allah<sup>saww</sup> supplicated for the rain and the people were drenched to the extent that they said, ‘It’s drowning (us)’, and Rasool-Allah<sup>saww</sup> said (gestured) by his<sup>saww</sup> hand and returned it: ‘O Allah<sup>azwj</sup>! Around us and not upon us!” He<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> said: ‘So the clouds dispersed, and they said, ‘O Rasool-Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup>! You<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> supplicated for the rain for us but we were not quenched, then you<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> supplicated for the rain for us, so we were quenched’. He<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> said: ‘I<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> supplicated and there was no intention for me<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> during that, then I<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> supplicated, and for me<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> there was an intention regarding that’.
