كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) يَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً وَ يَتُوبُ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً قَالَ قُلْتُ كَانَ يَقُولُ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ كَانَ يَقُولُ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً وَ يَقُولُ وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَى اللَّهِ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً .
Translation
Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Muawiya Bin Ammar, from Al Haris Bin Al Mugheira, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> having said: ‘Rasool-Allah<sup>saww</sup> was seeking Forgiveness of Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic (on behalf of his<sup>saww</sup> nation) seventy times during every day, and he<sup>saww</sup> turned to Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic seventy times (every day)’. I said, ‘Was he<sup>saww</sup> saying: ‘I<sup>saww</sup> seek Forgiveness of Allah<sup>azwj</sup> and I<sup>saww</sup> repent to Him<sup>azwj</sup>?’ He<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘He<sup>saww</sup> was saying: ‘I<sup>saww</sup> seek Forgiveness of Allah<sup>azwj</sup>, I<sup>saww</sup> seek Forgiveness of Allah<sup>azwj</sup>’, seventy times, and he<sup>saww</sup> was saying, ‘And I<sup>saww</sup> turn to Allah<sup>azwj</sup>, I<sup>saww</sup> turn to Allah<sup>azwj</sup>’, seventy times’.
