قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) السَّلَامُ تَطَوُّعٌ وَ الرَّدُّ فَرِيضَةٌ .

علی بن ابراہیم نے اپنے والد سے، انہوں نے النوفلی سے، انہوں نے السکونی سے، انہوں نے ابو عبد اللہ علیہ السلام سے روایت کی کہ آپ نے فرمایا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ نے فرمایا: سلام (ابتداء کرنا) نفل ہے اور جواب دینا فرض ہے۔
Translation
Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Al Nowfaly, from Al Sakuny, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> having said: ‘Rasool-Allah<sup>saww</sup> said: ‘(Initiating) the greeting (السَّلَامُ) is voluntary, and the responding is an Obligation’.
