قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَوْلُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِنَّما نَعُدُّ لَهُمْ عَدًّا قَالَ مَا هُوَ عِنْدَكَ قُلْتُ عَدَدُ الْأَيَّامِ قَالَ إِنَّ الْآبَاءَ وَ الْأُمَّهَاتِ يُحْصُونَ ذَلِكَ لَا وَ لَكِنَّهُ عَدَدُ الْأَنْفَاسِ .
Translation
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Al Husayn Bin Is’haq, from Ali Bin Mahziyar, from Ali Bin Ismail Al Maysami, from Abdul A’ala a slave of the family of Saam who said, ‘I said to Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup>, ‘(What about) the Words of Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:19#h84"><a href="/books/quran:19#h84">[19:84]</a></a> but rather We only Number out to them a number</span>?’ He<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘What is it (meaning) with you?’ I said, ‘The number of the days’. He<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘The fathers and the mother are counting that. No, but it is the number of the breaths’.
