علی بن محمد اور محمد بن الحسن نے سہل بن زیاد سے، انہوں نے ابن محبوب سے، انہوں نے ابو وَلَّاد سے روایت کی، انہوں نے کہا: ابو عبد اللہ علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: بے شک اللہ نے مشرق کی جانب سے ایک پردہ ظلمت سے بنایا اور اس پر ایک فرشتہ مقرر کیا۔ پس جب سورج غروب ہوتا ہے تو وہ فرشتہ ایک چلو اپنے ہاتھ سے بھرتا ہے، پھر شفق کا پیچھا کرتے ہوئے مغرب کی طرف رخ کرتا ہے اور اپنے دونوں ہاتھوں کے درمیان سے تھوڑا تھوڑا نکالتا رہتا ہے، چلتا جاتا ہے یہاں تک کہ شفق کے ڈھلتے وقت مغرب پہنچ جاتا ہے اور ظلمت چھوڑ دیتا ہے۔ پھر مشرق کی طرف لوٹتا ہے۔ پس جب فجر طلوع ہوتی ہے تو وہ اپنے دونوں پر پھیلاتا ہے اور ظلمت کو مشرق سے مغرب کی طرف ہانکتا ہے یہاں تک کہ سورج کے طلوع ہونے وقت مغرب میں پہنچا دیتا ہے۔

Translation

Ali Bin Muhammad, and Muhammad Bin Al Hassan, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Ibn Mahboub, from Abu Wallad who said, ‘Abu Abdullah^asws said ‘Allah^azwj Created a veil of darkness from what follows the east and Allocated an Angel with it. So when the sun sets, that Angel scoops out a scoop with his hand, then faces the west with it followed by the twilight and takes it out from his hand, little by little, and he goes (on doing that). So the Maghrib is complete during the falling of the sun. So the darkness is released (into the darkness). Then he returns to the east. So when the dawn emerges, he spreads his wings, so the darkness urges on from the east to the west until the west is completed with it during the emergence of the sun’.
