لَا يَنْبَغِي لِلْإِمَامِ أَنْ يَنْتَقِلَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ حَتَّى يُتِمَّ مَنْ خَلْفَهُ الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ وَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَؤُمُّ فِي الصَّلَاةِ هَلْ يَنْبَغِي لَهُ أَنْ يُعَقِّبَ بِأَصْحَابِهِ بَعْدَ التَّسْلِيمِ فَقَالَ يُسَبِّحُ وَ يَذْهَبُ مَنْ شَاءَ لِحَاجَتِهِ وَ لَا يُعَقِّبُ رَجُلٌ لِتَعْقِيبِ الْإِمَامِ .
Translation
Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Hammad, from Al Halby, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> having said: ‘It is not befitting for the prayer leader that he should turn when he has greeted (<span class="iTxt">Salām</span>) until the ones behind him have completed the <span class="iTxt">Salāt</span>’. He (the narrator) said, ‘And I asked him<sup>asws</sup> about the man who leads (a <span class="iTxt">Jam’at</span>) in the <span class="iTxt">Salāt</span>, ‘Is it befitting for him that he does a follow up with his companions after the greeting (<span class="iTxt">Salām</span>)?’ So he<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘He can Glorify, and he can go wherever he so desires to for his need, and a man should not do a follow up to the follow up of the prayer leader’.
