Al-Kafi 5162

Translation

Muhammad Bin Ismail, from Al Fazl Bin Shazaan, and Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, altogether from Hammad Bin Isa, from Hareyz, from Zurara, (It has been narrated) from one of the two (5^th or 6^th Imam^asws), said, ‘I said to him^asws, ‘A man does not know whether he has prays one (<span class="iTxt">Rak’at</span>) or two’. He^asws said: ‘He should repeat (the <span class="iTxt">Salāt</span>)’. I said to him, ‘A man did not know whether he had prayed two or three (<span class="iTxt">Rak’at</span>)’. So he^asws said: ‘When the doubt enters after his entry into the second, he should go into the third, then pray another (<span class="iTxt">Rak’at</span>), and there would be nothing upon him, and he would offer <span class="iTxt">Salām</span> (greet)’. I said, ‘So if he does not know whether he was in the second or the fourth?’ He^asws said: ‘He should offer <span class="iTxt">Salām </span>(greet), and stand, so he should pray two <span class="iTxt">Rak’at</span>, then offer <span class="iTxt">Salām</span> (greet), and there would be nothing upon him’.
