كَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الثَّالِثِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّ قَوْماً سَأَلُونِي عَنِ الْفِطْرَةِ وَ يَسْأَلُونِّي أَنْ يَحْمِلُوا قِيمَتَهَا إِلَيْكَ وَ قَدْ بَعَثَ إِلَيْكَ هَذَا الرَّجُلُ عَامَ أَوَّلَ وَ سَأَلَنِي أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ فَنَسِيتُ ذَلِكَ وَ قَدْ بَعَثْتُ إِلَيْكَ الْعَامَ عَنْ كُلِّ رَأْسٍ مِنْ عِيَالِي بِدِرْهَمٍ عَلَى قِيمَةِ تِسْعَةِ أَرْطَالٍ بِدِرْهَمٍ فَرَأْيُكَ جَعَلَنِيَ اللَّهُ فِدَاكَ فِي ذَلِكَ فَكَتَبَ ( عليه السلام ) الْفِطْرَةُ قَدْ كَثُرَ السُّؤَالُ عَنْهَا وَ أَنَا أَكْرَهُ كُلَّ مَا أَدَّى إِلَى الشُّهْرَةِ فَاقْطَعُوا ذِكْرَ ذَلِكَ وَ اقْبِضْ مِمَّنْ دَفَعَ لَهَا وَ أَمْسِكْ عَمَّنْ لَمْ يَدْفَعْ .
Translation
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Muhammad Bin Abdullah, from Abdullah Bin Ja’far, from Ayoub Bin Nuh who said, ‘I wrote to Abu Al-Hassan<sup>asws</sup> the 3<sup>rd</sup> that a group of people asked me about the Fitra, and are asking me that carry over its price to you<sup>asws</sup>; and I had sent a man to you<sup>asws</sup> last year, and he had asked me to ask you<sup>asws</sup>, but I forgot that, and I have sent to you, on behalf of each head from my dependents, by dirhams upon the price of nine Ratls (a unit of measurement), by Dirhams. So, can I have your<sup>asws</sup> view with regards to that? May Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Make me to be sacrificed for you<sup>asws</sup>’. So he<sup>asws</sup> wrote: ‘The Fitra, the questions have become numerous about it, and I<sup>asws</sup> dislike everything that invites to the publicity. Therefore, cut off the mention of that, and take possession from the ones who hand it over and withhold from the ones who do not hand over’.
