محمد بن یحیی، عمران بن موسیٰ سے، موسیٰ بن جعفر سے، علی بن اسباط سے، محمد بن فضیل سے، ابو حمزہ سے، جنہوں نے کہا: میں نے ابو عبداللہ علیہ السلام سے علم کے بارے میں پوچھا: “کیا یہ ایسا علم ہے جسے عالم لوگوں کے منہ سے سیکھتا ہے، یا یہ کتاب میں تمہارے پاس ہے، جسے تم پڑھتے ہو اور اس سے جان لیتے ہو؟” انہوں نے فرمایا: “یہ معاملہ اس سے کہیں بڑا اور زیادہ لازم ہے۔ کیا تم نے اللہ عزوجل کا یہ قول نہیں سنا:” “اور اسی طرح ہم نے اپنی طرف سے ایک روح تمہاری طرف وحی کی؛ تم نہیں جانتے تھے کہ کتاب کیا ہے، اور نہ ایمان کیا ہے۔” پھر انہوں نے فرمایا: “تمہارے ساتھی اس آیت کے بارے میں کیا کہتے ہیں؟ کیا وہ اقرار کرتے ہیں کہ وہ ایسی حالت میں تھے کہ انہیں معلوم نہ تھا کہ کتاب کیا ہے، اور نہ ایمان کیا ہے؟” تو میں نے کہا: “مجھے نہیں معلوم، میں آپ پر قربان، وہ کیا کہتے ہیں۔” انہوں نے مجھ سے فرمایا: “ہاں، وہ واقعی ایسی حالت میں تھے کہ وہ نہیں جانتے تھے کہ کتاب کیا ہے، اور نہ ایمان، یہاں تک کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے وہ روح بھیجی جس کا ذکر کتاب میں ہے۔ پھر جب اس نے اسے ان کی طرف وحی کی، تو اس کے ذریعے انہیں علم اور فہم سکھایا۔ اور یہ وہ روح ہے جسے اللہ تعالیٰ جسے چاہتا ہے عطا کرتا ہے؛ پس جب وہ اسے کسی بندے کو دیتا ہے تو اسے فہم سکھا دیتا ہے۔”

Translation

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Imran Bin Musa, from Musa Bin Ja’far, from Ali Bin Asbat, from Muhammad Bin Al Fuzayl, from Abu Hamza who said, ‘I asked Abu Abdullah^asws about the knowledge, ‘Is it a knowledge which the knowledgeable one^asws learns from the mouths of the men, or is it in the Book with you (Imams^asws) which you^asws are reading from, so you^asws are learning from it?’ He^asws said: ‘The matter is greater than that and more necessary. Have you not heard the Words of Allah^azwj Mighty and Majestic <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:42#h52"><a href="/books/quran:42#h52">[42:52]</a></a> And thus We Revealed to you a Spirit from Our Command. You did not know what the Book was, nor the Eman</span>’. Then he^asws said: ‘Which thing are your companions saying regarding this Verse? Are they reading it that he^saww was in a state of not knowing what the Book (Quran) nor the <span class="iTxt">Eman</span> was?’ So I said, ‘I don’t know, may I be sacrificed for you^asws, what they are saying’. So he^asws said to me: ‘Yes. He^saww was in a state where he^saww did not know what the Book was nor the <span class="iTxt">Eman</span> until Allah^azwj the Exalted Sent the Spirit Mentioned in the Book. So when He^azwj Revealed to Him^azwj, he^saww knew by it the knowledge and the understanding, and it is the Spirit which Allah^azwj the Exalted Gives to the one whom He^azwj so Desires to. So when He^azwj does Give it to a servant, He^azwj Teaches him the understanding’.
