اَلرِّضَا علیہ السلام نے محمد بن سنان کو ان کے سوالات کے جواب میں جو کچھ لکھا اس کے بارے میں لکھا: “عورتوں کو وراثت میں مردوں کے نصف حصہ دینے کی وجہ یہ ہے کہ جب عورت شادی کرتی ہے تو وہ حاصل کرتی ہے اور مرد دیتا ہے؛ اس لیے مردوں کو زیادہ دیا گیا ہے۔” اور ایک اور وجہ یہ ہے کہ مرد کو عورت کے مقابلے میں دوگنا دیا جاتا ہے کیونکہ عورت مرد کی کفالت میں ہوتی ہے اگر اسے ضرورت ہو، اور اس کی کفالت مرد پر فرض ہے اور اس کی مالی ذمہ داری بھی مرد پر ہے۔ عورت پر مرد کی کفالت فرض نہیں ہے اور اگر مرد کو ضرورت ہو تو اس کے اخراجات عورت پر نہیں ہیں۔ اس لیے مرد کو زیادہ دیا گیا ہے، اور یہ اللہ تعالیٰ کا فرمان ہے، جو بلند و برتر ہے: ۝ مرد عورتوں کے سرپرست ہیں کیونکہ اللہ نے بعض کو بعض پر فضیلت دی ہے اور وہ اپنی دولت سے خرچ کرتے ہیں۔ ۝

Translation

Hadith.5755 - Imam Ali ibn Musa Ar-Ridha (as) wrote to Muhammad ibn Sinan in response to his questions: "The reason women are given half of what men receive from inheritance is because when a woman marries, she receives, whereas a man gives. Therefore, more has been allocated to men." Imam (as) continued: "Another reason for giving the male twice as much as the female is that the female is under the care of the male if she is in need, and it is his responsibility to support her and provide for her. However, a woman is not required to support a man, nor is she responsible for his expenses if he is in need. Therefore, more has been allocated to the man for this reason. This is in accordance with the saying of Allah (swt), the Mighty and Majestic: 'Men are the protectors and maintainers of women because Allah (swt) has given one more (strength) than the other and because they spend from their wealth.'" (Surah An-Nisa 4:34).
