Life
Born in Bukhara in 810, al-Bukhari traveled the Islamic world for decades gathering and scrutinizing hadith, and compiled his Sahih from a vast number of reports according to rigorous criteria of authenticity. He died near Samarkand in 870.
Struggles & Trials
His later years were marked by conflict with local authorities and rival scholars, and tradition holds he was driven from Bukhara over a theological dispute, dying in a village in exile.
