Life
Al-Nasir Muhammad (son of Qalawun) ruled in three separate reigns between 1293 and 1341, finally consolidating power for over three decades of prosperity. He secured a lasting peace with the Mongols, presided over a flourishing of trade and monumental architecture across Cairo, and patronized the arts and sciences. His long third reign is generally regarded as the height of the Bahri Mamluk state, though the succession struggles after him hastened its decline.
