Mrs. Gerould belongs to the school of Henry James, but shows marked individuality in her themes and in her dramatic power. A comparison of some of her short stories with stories by Mr. James (q.v.) and by Mrs. Wharton (q.v.) is illuminating for the powers and limitations of all three. 2. Another interesting comparison is between Mrs. Gerould's stories and the collection entitled _Bliss_ by the English writer, Katherine Mansfield (Mrs. J. Middleton Murry); cf.
