Hymns from the German: Translated by Frances Elizabeth Cox
Hymns, German; Hymns, German -- Translations into English
Auf, schicke dich,
Recht feierlich
Des Heilands Fest mit Danken zu begehen:
Lieb ist der Dank,
Der Lobgesang,
Durch den wir Ihn, den Gott der Lieb, erhöhen.
Sprich dankbar froh:
Also, also
Hat Gott die Welt in seinem Sohn geliebet:
O wer bin ich,
Herr, dass Du mich
So herrlich hoch in deinem Sohn geliebet?
Er, unser Freund,
Mit uns vereint,
Zur Zeit, da wir noch seine Feinde waren;
Er wird uns gleich,
Um Gottes Reich
Und seine Lieb im Fleisch zu offenbaren.
An Ihm nimm Theil,
Er ist das Heil;
Thu täglich Buss und glaub an seinen Namen:
Der ehrt Ihn nicht,
Wer Herr, Herr, spricht,
Und doch nicht sucht sein Beispiel nachzuahmen.
Aus Dank will ich
In Brüdern Dich,
Dich, Gottessohn, bekleiden, speisen, tränken;
Der Frommen Herz
In ihrem Schmerz
Christmas Hymn. II.
God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son.
_St. John_, iii. 16.
Come, tune your heart,
To bear its part,
And celebrate Messiah’s Feast with praises;
Let love inspire
The joyful choir,
While to the God of Love glad hymns it raises.
Exalt His Name!
With joy proclaim,
God loved the world, and through His Son forgave us;
Oh! what are we,
That, Lord, we see
Thy wondrous Love, in Christ Who died to save us!
Behold our Friend
His Love commend,
In that when foes He died to reconcile us;
Our flesh He took,
His Throne forsook,
That from His Kingdom God might not exile us.
Your refuge place
In His free Grace,
Trust in His Name, and day by day repent you;
Ye mock God’s Word,
Who call Him Lord,
And follow not the Pattern He hath lent you.
O Christ, to prove
For Thee my love,
In brethren Thee my hands shall clothe and cherish;
To each sad heart
Sweet hope impart,
When worn with care, with sorrow nigh to perish.
