لِلْعَالِمِ إِذَا سُئِلَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ وَ هُوَ لَا يَعْلَمُهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ اللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ وَ لَيْسَ لِغَيْرِ الْعَالِمِ أَنْ يَقُولَ ذَلِكَ .

محمد بن اسماعیل نے الفضل بن شاذان سے، انہوں نے حماد بن عیسی سے، انہوں نے ربعی بن عبداللہ سے، انہوں نے محمد بن مسلم سے، انہوں نے ابو عبداللہ علیہ السلام سے روایت کی کہ آپ نے فرمایا: عالم کے لیے مناسب ہے کہ جب اس سے کسی چیز کے بارے میں پوچھا جائے اور وہ اسے نہ جانتا ہو تو کہے: اللہ زیادہ جانتا ہے۔ اور غیر عالم کے لیے یہ کہنا مناسب نہیں ہے۔
Translation
Muhammad Bin Ismail, from Al Fazl, from Al Fazl Bin Shazaan, from Hammad Bin Isa, from Rabie Bin Abdullah, from Muhammad Bin Muslim, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> having said: ‘(It is) for the scholar, when he is asked about something and he does not know it, that he should be saying, ‘Allah<sup>azwj</sup> is more Knowing’, and it is not for other than a scholar that he should be saying that’.
