إِذَا سُئِلَ الرَّجُلُ مِنْكُمْ عَمَّا لَا يَعْلَمُ فَلْيَقُلْ لَا أَدْرِي وَ لَا يَقُلْ اللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ فَيُوقِعَ فِي قَلْبِ صَاحِبِهِ شَكّاً وَ إِذَا قَالَ الْمَسْئُولُ لَا أَدْرِي فَلَا يَتَّهِمُهُ السَّائِلُ .

علی بن ابراہیم نے احمد بن محمد بن خالد سے، انہوں نے حماد بن عیسیٰ سے، انہوں نے حریز بن عبد اللہ سے، انہوں نے محمد بن مسلم سے، انہوں نے ابو عبد اللہ علیہ السلام سے روایت کی کہ آپ نے فرمایا: جب تم میں سے کسی شخص سے کوئی ایسی بات پوچھی جائے جو وہ نہ جانتا ہو، تو اسے کہنا چاہیے: 'میں نہیں جانتا'، اور یہ نہ کہے: 'اللہ بہتر جانتا ہے' کیونکہ اس سے اس کے ساتھی کے دل میں شک پیدا ہوگا۔ اور جب مسئول 'میں نہیں جانتا' کہہ دے تو سائل اس پر الزام نہیں لگا سکتا۔
Translation
Ali Bin Ibrahim, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khalid, from Hammad Bin Isa, from Hareyz Bin Abdullah, from Muhammad Bin Muslim, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> having said: ‘When the man from you is asked about what he does not know, so let him say, ‘I don’t know’, and he should not say, ‘Allah<sup>azwj</sup> is more Knowing’, for there would occur a doubt in the heart of his companion. And when the questioned one says, ‘I don’t know’, so the questioner cannot accuse him’.
