قُلْتُ لَهُ لِمَ سُمِّيَ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ قَالَ اللَّهُ سَمَّاهُ وَ هَكَذَا أَنْزَلَ فِي كِتَابِهِ وَ إِذْ أَخَذَ رَبُّكَ مِنْ بَنِي آدَمَ مِنْ ظُهُورِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَ أَشْهَدَهُمْ عَلى أَنْفُسِهِمْ أَ لَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ وَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّداً رَسُولِي وَ أَنَّ عَلِيّاً أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ .

علی بن ابراہیم، یعقوب بن یزید سے، ابن ابی عمیر سے، ابو الربیع القزاز سے، جابر سے، ابو جعفر علیہ السلام سے روایت کرتے ہیں، جنہوں نے فرمایا: میں نے ان سے کہا: “انہیں امیر المؤمنین کیوں نام دیا گیا؟” انہوں نے فرمایا: “اللہ نے انہیں نام دیا، اور اسی طرح اسے اپنی کتاب میں نازل فرمایا:” “اور جب تمہارے رب نے بنی آدم سے، ان کی پشتوں سے، ان کی نسلوں کو لیا، اور انہیں خود ان کے خلاف گواہ بنایا: کیا میں تمہارا رب نہیں ہوں؟ اور یہ کہ محمد میرے رسول ہیں، اور علی امیر المؤمنین ہیں۔”
Translation
Ali Bin Ibrahim, from Yaqoub Bin Yazeed, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Abu Al Raie Al Qazzaz, from Jabir, (It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’far<sup>asws</sup>, said, ‘I said to him<sup>asws</sup>, ‘Why is Amir Al-Momineen<sup>asws</sup> named as such?’ He<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Named him<sup>asws</sup> and <span style="text-decoration: underline">like this it is Revealed in His</span><sup style="text-decoration: underline">azwj</sup><span style="text-decoration: underline"> Book </span><span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:7#h172"><a href="/books/quran:7#h172">[7:172]</a></a> And when your Lord brought forth from the Children of Adam, from their backs, their descendants, and made them testify against their own souls: Am I not your Lord, and Muhammad</span><sup class="ibTxt">s</sup><sup class="ibTxt">aw</sup><sup class="ibTxt">w</sup><span class="ibTxt"> is My Rasool and Ali</span><sup class="ibTxt">asws</sup><span class="ibTxt"> is Amir Al-Momineen?</span>’.
