John Shaqi

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الطَّعَامِ فَقَالَ عَلَيْكَ بِالْخَلِّ وَ الزَّيْتِ فَإِنَّهُ مَرِي‏ءٌ فَإِنَّ عَلِيّاً ( عليه السلام ) كَانَ يُكْثِرُ أَكْلَهُ وَ إِنِّي أُكْثِرُ أَكْلَهُ وَ إِنَّهُ مَرِي‏ءٌ .


Translation

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Al Barqy, from his father, from one of our companions, from Ayoub Bin Al Hurr, from Muhammad Bin Ali Al Halby who said, ‘I asked Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> about the meal, so he<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘Upon you is (eating) with the vinegar and the oil, for it is nourishing, and Ali<sup>asws</sup> used to frequently eat it, and I<sup>asws</sup> frequently eat it, and it is nourishing’.
