John Shaqi

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) يَأْكُلُ الْخَلَّ وَ الزَّيْتَ وَ يَجْعَلُ نَفَقَتَهُ تَحْتَ طِنْفِسَتِهِ .


Translation

A number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Ali Bin Asbaat, from his uncle Yaqoub Bin Salim who said, ‘I heard Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> saying: ‘Amir Al-Momineen<sup>asws</sup> used eat the vinegar and the oil, and he<sup>asws</sup> kept the expenditure (for it) under his<sup>asws</sup> carpet’.
