سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى لَمَّا عَافَى أَيُّوبَ ( عليه السلام ) نَظَرَ إِلَى بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ قَدِ ازْدَرَعَتْ فَرَفَعَ طَرْفَهُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ وَ قَالَ إِلَهِي وَ سَيِّدِي عَبْدُكَ أَيُّوبُ الْمُبْتَلَى عَافَيْتَهُ وَ لَمْ يَزْدَرِعْ شَيْئاً وَ هَذَا لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ زَرْعٌ فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَيْهِ يَا أَيُّوبُ خُذْ مِنْ سُبْحَتِكَ كَفّاً فَابْذُرْهُ وَ كَانَتْ سُبْحَتُهُ فِيهَا مِلْحٌ فَأَخَذَ أَيُّوبُ ( عليه السلام ) كَفّاً مِنْهَا فَبَذَرَهُ فَخَرَجَ هَذَا الْعَدَسُ وَ أَنْتُمْ تُسَمُّونَهُ الْحِمِّصَ وَ نَحْنُ نُسَمِّيهِ الْعَدَسَ .
Translation
A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khalid, from his father, from Fazalat, from Rafa’at who said, ‘I heard Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> saying: ‘When Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Blessed and High Restored the health of Ayoub<sup>as</sup>, he<sup>as</sup> looked at (the affairs of) the Children of Israel who had farmed, so he<sup>as</sup> raised his<sup>as</sup> eyes towards the sky and said: ‘My<sup>as</sup> God, and my<sup>as</sup> Master! Your<sup>azwj</sup> servant Ayoub<sup>as</sup> was afflicted and You<sup>azwj</sup> Granted him<sup>as</sup> health, and he<sup>as</sup> has nowhere to plant anything, and this is a plantation of the Children of Israel’. So Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic Revealed unto him<sup>as</sup>: “O Ayoub<sup>as</sup>! Take a handful from your<sup>as</sup> rosary, so plant it”; and his<sup>as</sup> rosary had salt in it. So Ayoub<sup>as</sup> took a handful from it, so he<sup>as</sup> planted it, and there came out this lentil, and you all are calling is as chick-peas, and we<sup>asws</sup> are calling it as lentils’.
