أَقْبَلَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) فِي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ قَوْمٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ فَقَالُوا مَنْ هَذَا فَقِيلَ لَهُمْ إِمَامُ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لَوْ بَعَثْتُمْ إِلَيْهِ بِبَعْضِكُمْ يَسْأَلُهُ فَأَتَاهُ شَابٌّ مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا ابْنَ عَمِّ مَا أَكْبَرُ الْكَبَائِرِ قَالَ شُرْبُ الْخَمْرِ فَأَتَاهُمْ فَأَخْبَرَهُمْ فَقَالُوا لَهُ عُدْ إِلَيْهِ فَعَادَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَ لَمْ أَقُلْ لَكَ يَا ابْنَ أَخِ شُرْبُ الْخَمْرِ فَأَتَاهُمْ فَأَخْبَرَهُمْ فَقَالُوا لَهُ عُدْ إِلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَزَالُوا بِهِ حَتَّى عَادَ إِلَيْهِ فَسَأَلَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَ لَمْ أَقُلْ لَكَ يَا ابْنَ أَخِ شُرْبُ الْخَمْرِ إِنَّ شُرْبَ الْخَمْرِ يُدْخِلُ صَاحِبَهُ فِي الزِّنَا وَ السَّرِقَةِ وَ قَتْلِ النَّفْسِ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ وَ فِي الشِّرْكِ بِاللَّهِ وَ أَفَاعِيلُ الْخَمْرِ تَعْلُو عَلَى كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ كَمَا يَعْلُو شَجَرُهَا عَلَى كُلِّ الشَّجَرِ .
Translation
Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Amro Bin Usman, form Ahmad Bin Ismail the scribe, from his father who said, ‘I met Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> in the Sacred Masjid, so a group from the Quryesh looked at him<sup>asws</sup>, so they said, ‘Who is this?’ So it was said to them, ‘An Imam<sup>asws</sup> of the people of Al-Iraq’. So one of them said, ‘If we could send one of you to him<sup>asws</sup>, ask him<sup>asws</sup>’. So a youth from them came over to him<sup>asws</sup>, so he said to him<sup>asws</sup>, ‘O cousin, what is the biggest of the major sins?’ He<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘Drinking the wine’. So he went over to them, so they said to him, ‘Reiterate to him<sup>asws</sup>’. So he reiterated to him<sup>asws</sup>. So he<sup>asws</sup> said to him: ‘Did I<sup>asws</sup> not tell you, O cousin, drinking the wine?’ So he went to them and informed them, so they said, ‘Reiterate to him<sup>asws</sup>’. So they did not cease with it until he reiterated to him<sup>asws</sup>, so he asked him<sup>asws</sup>. So he<sup>asws</sup> said to him: ‘Did I<sup>asws</sup> not tell you, O cousin, drinking the wine? Drinking the wine enters its perpetrator into the adultery, and the theft, and the murder of the soul which Allah<sup>azwj</sup> has Prohibited, and into the association with Allah<sup>azwj</sup> (Shirk), and the effects of the wine override upon every sin just as its tree overrides (climbs) upon every tree’.
