إِذَا سَمِعَ الرَّجُلُ الشَّهَادَةَ وَ لَمْ يُشْهَدْ عَلَيْهَا فَهُوَ بِالْخِيَارِ إِنْ شَاءَ شَهِدَ وَ إِنْ شَاءَ سَكَتَ وَ قَالَ إِذَا أُشْهِدَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشْهَدَ .

علی بن ابراہیم نے اپنے والد سے، انہوں نے ابن ابی عمیر سے، انہوں نے ہشام بن سالم سے، انہوں نے ابی عبداللہ علیہ السلام سے روایت کی کہ آپ نے فرمایا: جب کوئی شخص گواہی سنے اور اسے اس پر گواہ نہ بنایا گیا ہو تو وہ مختار ہے: اگر چاہے تو گواہی دے اور اگر چاہے تو خاموش رہے۔ اور فرمایا: جب اسے گواہ بنایا گیا ہو تو پھر اس کے لیے گواہی دینے کے سوا کوئی چارہ نہیں۔
Translation
Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Hisham Bin Salim, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> having said: ‘When the man hears the testimony but did not witness upon it, so he is with the choice, if he so desires to he testifies, and if he so desires to he remains silent’. And he<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘When he witnessed it, there would not happen to be for him except that he testified’.
