إِذَا سَمِعَ الرَّجُلُ الشَّهَادَةَ وَ لَمْ يُشْهَدْ عَلَيْهَا فَهُوَ بِالْخِيَارِ إِنْ شَاءَ شَهِدَ وَ إِنْ شَاءَ سَكَتَ .

ابو علی الاشعری نے محمد بن عبد الجبار سے، انہوں نے صفوان بن یحییٰ سے، انہوں نے العلاء بن رزین سے، انہوں نے محمد بن مسلم سے، انہوں نے ابو جعفر علیہ السلام سے روایت کی کہ آپ نے فرمایا: جب کوئی شخص گواہی سنے اور اسے گواہ نہ بنایا گیا ہو تو اسے اختیار ہے، اگر چاہے گواہی دے اور اگر چاہے خاموش رہے۔
Translation
Abu Ali Al Ashary, from Muhammad Bin Abdul Jabbar, from Safwan Bin Yahya, from Al A’ala Bin Razeyn, from Muhammad Bin Muslim, (It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’far<sup>asws</sup> having said: ‘When the man hears the testimony and did not witness upon it, so he is with the choice, if he so desires to he testifies, and if he so desires to he remains silent’.
