إِذَا سَمِعَ الرَّجُلُ الشَّهَادَةَ وَ لَمْ يُشْهَدْ عَلَيْهَا فَهُوَ بِالْخِيَارِ إِنْ شَاءَ شَهِدَ وَ إِنْ شَاءَ سَكَتَ إِلَّا إِذَا عَلِمَ مِنَ الظَّالِمِ فَلْيَشْهَدْ وَ لَا يَحِلُّ لَهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشْهَدَ .

محمد بن یحییٰ نے احمد بن محمد سے، انہوں نے ابن فضال سے، انہوں نے العلاء بن رزین سے، انہوں نے محمد بن مسلم سے، انہوں نے ابو جعفر علیہ السلام سے روایت کی کہ آپ نے فرمایا: جب کوئی شخص کسی گواہی کو سنتا ہے لیکن اسے گواہ بنایا نہیں گیا، تو وہ اختیار رکھتا ہے — اگر چاہے تو گواہی دے اور اگر چاہے تو خاموش رہے — سوائے اس کے جب وہ ظالم کے بارے میں کچھ جانتا ہو، تو اسے گواہی دینی چاہیے اور اس کے لیے گواہی دینے کے علاوہ کوئی چارہ نہیں ہے۔
Translation
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Fazzal, from Al A’ala Bin Razeyn, from Muhammad Bin Muslim, (It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’far<sup>asws</sup> having said: ‘When the man hears the testimony but did not witness upon it, so he is with the choice, if he so desires to he testifies, and if he so desires to he remains silent, except when he knows from the oppressor, so let him testify, and there is no way out for him except that he testifies’.
