ایک شخص نے ابو جعفر علیہ السلام سے سوال کیا اللہ جل و عز کے اس قول کے بارے میں: "اور جب تیرے رب نے بنی آدم کی پشتوں سے ان کی ذریت کو نکالا اور انہیں اپنے نفسوں پر گواہ بنایا: کیا میں تمہارا رب نہیں ہوں؟ انہوں نے کہا: ہاں" — آیت کے آخر تک۔ تو آپ علیہ السلام نے فرمایا جبکہ آپ کے والد سن رہے تھے: میرے والد نے مجھے بیان کیا کہ اللہ عز و جل نے اس مٹی سے ایک مٹھی لی جس سے آدم علیہ السلام کو پیدا کیا تھا، پھر اس پر فرات کا میٹھا پانی ڈالا، پھر اسے چالیس صبح تک چھوڑ دیا۔ پھر اس پر کھاری تلخ پانی ڈالا اور چالیس صبح تک چھوڑ دیا۔ جب مٹی خمیر ہو گئی تو اسے اٹھایا اور خوب مسلا۔ تو وہ ذروں کی طرح دائیں اور بائیں سے نکلے۔ اور انہیں سب کو حکم دیا کہ آگ میں داخل ہوں۔ تو دائیں والے داخل ہوئے تو وہ ان کے لیے ٹھنڈی اور سلامت ہو گئی۔ اور بائیں والوں نے اس میں داخل ہونے سے انکار کر دیا۔

Translation

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Ibn Azina, from Zurara that, ‘A man asked Abu Ja’far^asws about the Words of Allah^azwj Majestic and Mighty <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:7#h172"><a href="/books/quran:7#h172">[7:172]</a></a> And when your Lord brought forth from the Children of Adam, from their backs, their descendants, and made them testify against their own souls: Am I not your Lord? They said: Yes! We testify</span> – up to the end of the Verse. So he^asws said, and his^asws father^asws was listening: ‘My^asws father^asws narrated to me that Allah^azwj Mighty and Majestic Grabbed a Handfull of dust, the dust from which Adam^as was Created, and He^azwj Poured the sweet water of the Euphrates over it. Then He^azwj Left it for forty mornings. Then He^azwj Poured the salty, bitter water over it, and Left it for forty mornings. So when the clay became (like) dough, He^azwj Grabbed it and Kneaded it with an intense kneading. So they came out like articles, from its right and its left, and He^azwj Commanded the together that they should fall into the Fire. So the companions of the right entered, and it became cold, safe, for them, but the companions of the left refused to enter into it’.
