Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ali Bin Al Hakam, from Sufyan Bin Al Simt who said, ‘A man asked Abu Abdullahasws about Al-<span class="iTxt">Islām</span> and <span class="iTxt">Al-Emān</span> (the belief), ‘What is the difference between the two?’ But heasws did not answer him. Then he asked himasws (again). But, heasws did not answer him. Then they met in the street and the man had approached the ride to leave. So Abu Abdullahasws said to him: ‘It is as if you have approached the ride to leave?’ So he said, ‘Yes’. So heasws said: ‘Meet measws in the house’. So he met himasws and he asked himasws about Al-<span class="iTxt">Islām</span> and <span class="iTxt">Al-Emān</span>, what is the difference is between the two. So heasws said: ‘Al-<span class="iTxt">Islām</span>, it is the apparent which the people are upon – the testimony that there is no god except for Allahazwj Alone, there being no associates for Himazwj, and that Muhammadsaww is Hisazwj servant and Hisazwj Rasoolsaww, and establishment of the <span class="iTxt">Salāt</span>, and giving the <span class="iTxt">Zakāt</span>, and performing the <span class="iTxt">Hajj</span> of the House (<span class="iTxt">Kabah</span>), and (observing) <span class="iTxt">Soām</span> the Month of Ramazan. So this is Al-<span class="iTxt">Islām</span>’. And heasws said: ‘<span class="iTxt">Al-Emān</span> is the recognition of this matter (Al-<span class="iTxt">Wilayah</span>) along with this (all of the above). So if one acknowledges with it and does not recognise this matter, he would be a Muslim, but would be straying’ (without the Light of <span class="iTxt">Emān</span>).
