Al-Kafi 1563

Translation

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khalid, from his father, from Haroun Bin Al Jahm, or someone else, from Umar Bin Aban Al Kalby, from Abdul Hameed Al Wasity, from Abu Baseer who said, ‘Abu Abdullah^asws said to me: ‘O Abu Muhammad! The <span class="iTxt">Islām</span> is at a level’. I said, ‘Yes’. He^asws said: ‘The <span class="iTxt">Emān</span> is at a level over the <span class="iTxt">Islām</span>’. I said, ‘Yes’. He^asws said: ‘And the piety is a level over the <span class="iTxt">Emān</span>’. I said, ‘Yes’. He^asws said: ‘And ‘الْيَقِينَ’ the conviction is a level over ‘التَّقْوَى’ the piety’. I said, ‘Yes’. He^asws said: ‘So the people have not been given anything scarcer than ‘الْيَقِينَ’ the conviction, and rather you are attached to the least of the <span class="iTxt">Islām</span>. Therefore beware of it escaping from your hands’.
