قُلْتُ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ إِنَّا نَجْتَمِعُ فَنَتَذَاكَرُ مَا عِنْدَنَا فَلَا يَرِدُ عَلَيْنَا شَيْءٌ إِلَّا وَ عِنْدَنَا فِيهِ شَيْءٌ مُسَطَّرٌ وَ ذَلِكَ مِمَّا أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ بِهِ عَلَيْنَا بِكُمْ ثُمَّ يَرِدُ عَلَيْنَا الشَّيْءُ الصَّغِيرُ لَيْسَ عِنْدَنَا فِيهِ شَيْءٌ فَيَنْظُرُ بَعْضُنَا إِلَى بَعْضٍ وَ عِنْدَنَا مَا يُشْبِهُهُ فَنَقِيسُ عَلَى أَحْسَنِهِ فَقَالَ وَ مَا لَكُمْ وَ لِلْقِيَاسِ إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ هَلَكَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ بِالْقِيَاسِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِذَا جَاءَكُمْ مَا تَعْلَمُونَ فَقُولُوا بِهِ وَ إِنْ جَاءَكُمْ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ فَهَا وَ أَهْوَى بِيَدِهِ إِلَى فِيهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَعَنَ اللَّهُ أَبَا حَنِيفَةَ كَانَ يَقُولُ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ وَ قُلْتُ أَنَا وَ قَالَتِ الصَّحَابَةُ وَ قُلْتُ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَ كُنْتَ تَجْلِسُ إِلَيْهِ فَقُلْتُ لَا وَ لَكِنْ هَذَا كَلَامُهُ فَقُلْتُ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ أَتَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) النَّاسَ بِمَا يَكْتَفُونَ بِهِ فِي عَهْدِهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَ مَا يَحْتَاجُونَ إِلَيْهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ فَقُلْتُ فَضَاعَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْءٌ فَقَالَ لَا هُوَ عِنْدَ أَهْلِهِ .

علی بن ابراہیم، محمد بن عیسیٰ بن عبید سے، یونس بن عبد الرحمن سے، سماعہ بن مہران سے، ابو الحسن موسیٰ علیہ السلام سے روایت کرتے ہیں، جنہوں نے فرمایا: میں نے عرض کیا: “اللہ آپ کو سلامت رکھے! ہم جمع ہوتے ہیں اور جو کچھ ہمارے پاس ہے اس پر باہم تذکرہ کرتے ہیں۔ ہمارے پاس کوئی چیز نہیں آتی مگر یہ کہ اس کے بارے میں ہمارے پاس کچھ لکھا ہوا ہوتا ہے، اور یہ اللہ کی طرف سے آپ کے ذریعے ہم پر اس کا انعام ہے۔ پھر ہمارے پاس ایک چھوٹی بات آتی ہے جس کے بارے میں ہمارے پاس کچھ نہیں ہوتا، تو ہم میں سے بعض بعض کی طرف دیکھتے ہیں، حالانکہ ہمارے پاس اس جیسی چیز ہوتی ہے، پھر ہم اس کے بہترین پہلو پر قیاس کرتے ہیں۔” تو انہوں نے فرمایا: “قیاس سے تمہارا کیا واسطہ؟ تم سے پہلے جو ہلاک ہوئے وہ صرف قیاس ہی کی وجہ سے ہلاک ہوئے۔” پھر انہوں نے فرمایا: “جب تمہارے پاس وہ چیز آئے جسے تم جانتے ہو تو اسی کے مطابق بات کرو؛ اور اگر تمہارے پاس وہ چیز آئے جسے تم نہیں جانتے، تو—” اور انہوں نے اپنا ہاتھ اپنے منہ کی طرف اشارہ کیا۔ پھر انہوں نے فرمایا: “اللہ ابو حنیفہ پر لعنت کرے۔ وہ کہا کرتا تھا: ‘علی نے کہا، اور میں کہتا ہوں؛ اور صحابہ نے کہا، اور میں کہتا ہوں۔’” پھر انہوں نے فرمایا: “کیا تم اس کے پاس بیٹھتے تھے؟” میں نے کہا: “نہیں، لیکن یہ اس کا کلام ہے۔” پھر میں نے عرض کیا: “اللہ آپ کو سلامت رکھے! کیا رسول اللہ صلى الله عليه وآله نے لوگوں کے پاس وہ چیز پہنچائی جو ان کے زمانے میں ان کے لیے کافی تھی؟” انہوں نے فرمایا: “ہاں، اور وہ سب کچھ جو انہیں قیامت کے دن تک درکار ہوگا۔” میں نے کہا: “تو کیا اس میں سے کچھ ضائع ہو گیا؟” انہوں نے فرمایا: “نہیں، وہ اس کے اہل کے پاس ہے۔”
Translation
Ali Bin Ibrahim, from Muhammad Bin Isa Bin Ubeyd, from Yunus Bin Abdul Rahman, from Sama’at Bin Mihran, (It has been narrated) from Abu Al-Hassan Musa<sup>asws</sup>, said, ‘I said, ‘May Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Keep you<sup>asws</sup> well! We tend to gather, so we discuss what is with us. So there is nothing which is referred to us except that with us there is something explaining it, and that through you<sup>asws</sup> - what Allah<sup>azwj</sup> has Favoured with upon you. Then something small gets referred to us, and there is nothing with us regarding it. So we exchange views with each other of what is with us (and come up with that) what resembles it. So we analogise upon the best of it’. So he<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘And what is to you and the analogies? But rather, the ones from before you were destroyed due to the analogies’. Then he<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> said: ‘When there comes to you (a matter) which you know (from us<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup>), so speak with it, but if there comes to you that which you do not know, so Shush!’ (keep quiet), and he<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> gestured by his<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> to his<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> mouth. Then he<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> said: ‘May Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup> Curse Abu Haneefa! He was saying, ‘Ali<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> said, and I say, and the companions said (but my opinion is better)’. Then he<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> said: ‘You used to sit with him?’ So I said, ‘No, but this is (indeed) his speech’. Then I said, ‘May Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup> Keep you<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> well! The people came to Rasool-Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> with what they used to suffice with during his<sup style="font-weight: normal">saww</sup> era’. He<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> said: ‘Yes, and whatever they would be needy to up to the Day of Judgment’. So I said, ‘So, is anything lost from that?’ So he<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> said: ‘No. It is with its rightful ones<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup>’.
