سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ مَسْأَلَةٍ فَأَجَابَنِي ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْهَا فَأَجَابَهُ بِخِلَافِ مَا أَجَابَنِي ثُمَّ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ آخَرُ فَأَجَابَهُ بِخِلَافِ مَا أَجَابَنِي وَ أَجَابَ صَاحِبِي فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ الرَّجُلَانِ قُلْتُ يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ رَجُلَانِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ مِنْ شِيعَتِكُمْ قَدِمَا يَسْأَلَانِ فَأَجَبْتَ كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا بِغَيْرِ مَا أَجَبْتَ بِهِ صَاحِبَهُ فَقَالَ يَا زُرَارَةُ إِنَّ هَذَا خَيْرٌ لَنَا وَ أَبْقَى لَنَا وَ لَكُمْ وَ لَوِ اجْتَمَعْتُمْ عَلَى أَمْرٍ وَاحِدٍ لَصَدَّقَكُمُ النَّاسُ عَلَيْنَا وَ لَكَانَ أَقَلَّ لِبَقَائِنَا وَ بَقَائِكُمْ قَالَ ثُمَّ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) شِيعَتُكُمْ لَوْ حَمَلْتُمُوهُمْ عَلَى الْأَسِنَّةِ أَوْ عَلَى النَّارِ لَمَضَوْا وَ هُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنْ عِنْدِكُمْ مُخْتَلِفِينَ قَالَ فَأَجَابَنِي بِمِثْلِ جَوَابِ أَبِيهِ .

احمد بن ادریس نے محمد بن عبد الجبار سے، انہوں نے حسن بن علی سے، انہوں نے ثعلبہ بن میمون سے، انہوں نے زرارہ بن اعین سے، انہوں نے ابو جعفر علیہ السلام سے روایت کی کہ آپ نے فرمایا: میں نے ان سے ایک مسئلے کے بارے میں پوچھا تو انہوں نے مجھے جواب دیا۔ پھر ایک آدمی آیا اور اس نے بھی وہی سوال کیا تو انہوں نے اسے میرے جواب سے مختلف جواب دیا۔ پھر ایک اور آدمی آیا تو انہوں نے اسے بھی میرے اور میرے ساتھی کے جوابوں سے مختلف جواب دیا۔ جب دونوں آدمی نکل گئے تو میں نے کہا: اے ابن رسول اللہ! عراق کے دو آدمی آپ کے شیعوں میں سے آئے تھے اور سوال کرنے کے لیے، اور آپ نے ہر ایک کو دوسرے سے مختلف جواب دیا۔ آپ نے فرمایا: اے زرارہ! یہ ہمارے اور تمہارے لیے بہتر اور زیادہ پائیدار ہے۔ اگر تم سب ایک بات پر متفق ہو جاتے تو لوگ ہمارے خلاف تمہاری تصدیق کر دیتے اور یہ ہماری اور تمہاری بقا کے لیے کم ہوتا۔ راوی نے کہا: پھر میں نے ابو عبد اللہ علیہ السلام سے کہا: آپ کے شیعہ اگر انہیں نیزوں پر یا آگ میں لے جاتے تو وہ چلے جاتے، لیکن وہ آپ کے پاس سے اختلاف کرتے ہوئے نکلتے ہیں۔ آپ نے اپنے والد کے جواب جیسا جواب دیا۔
Translation
Ahmad Bin Idrees, from Muhammad Bin Abdul Jabbar, from Al Hassan Bin Ali, from Sa’alba Bin Maymoun, from Zurara Bin Ayn, (It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’far<sup>asws</sup>, said, ‘I asked him<sup>asws</sup> a question, so he<sup>asws</sup> answered me. Then a man came over, so he asked him<sup>asws</sup> about it, so he<sup>asws</sup> answered differently to what he<sup>asws</sup> had answered me. Then another man came over, so he<sup>asws</sup> answered him differently to what he<sup>asws</sup> had answered me and to what he<sup>asws</sup> had answered my companion. So when the two men went out, I said, ‘O son<sup>asws</sup> of Rasool-Allah<sup>saww</sup>! Two men from the people of Al-Iraq, from your<sup>asws</sup> Shias came over asking, so you<sup>asws</sup> answered one of the two with other than what you<sup>asws</sup> answered his companion’. So he<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘O Zurara! This is better for us<sup>asws</sup> and more remaining for us<sup>asws</sup> and for you all. And if they were all to gather upon one matter, the people would (start) believe upon us<sup>asws</sup>. But, it would be less for our<sup>asws</sup> preservation and your preservation’. He (the narrator) said, ‘Then I said to Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup>, ‘Your<sup>asws</sup> Shia, if you<sup>asws</sup> were to carry them upon the arrows or upon the fire, they would be walking (upon these), and they are (now) coming out from your<sup>asws</sup> presence, differing’. He (the narrator) said, ‘So he<sup>asws</sup> answered me with similar to the answer of his<sup>asws</sup> father<sup>asws</sup>’.
