علی بن محمد نے سہل بن زیاد سے، انہوں نے محمد بن الولید سے، انہوں نے ابن ابی نصر سے، انہوں نے ابو الحسن الموصلی سے، انہوں نے ابو عبداللہ علیہ السلام سے روایت کی کہ آپ نے فرمایا: علماء میں سے ایک عالم (ربی) امیر المؤمنین علیہ السلام کے پاس آیا اور کہا: اے امیر المؤمنین! آپ کا رب کب سے ہے؟ آپ نے فرمایا: تجھ پر ہلاکت ہو! کب تھا؟ تو صرف اس چیز کے بارے میں کہا جاتا ہے جو پہلے نہ تھی۔ لیکن جو ہمیشہ سے ہے اس کے بارے میں کب تھا؟ نہیں کہا جاتا۔ وہ ابتداء سے پہلے بھی تھا بغیر کسی ابتداء کے، اور انتہاء کے بعد بھی ہوگا بغیر کسی انتہاء کے، اور اس کی کوئی ایسی حد نہیں کہ جس کے ذریعے اس کی حد کو پایا جائے۔ پھر اس نے آپ سے کہا: کیا آپ نبی ہیں؟ آپ نے فرمایا: تیری ماں کا ماتم ہو! میں تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ کے بندوں میں سے ایک بندہ ہوں۔

Translation

Ali Bin Muhammad, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Muhammad Bin Al Waleed, from Ibn Abu Nasr, from Abu Al Hassan Al Mowsaly, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah^asws having said: ‘A Rabbi from the Rabbis came over to Amir Al-<span class="iTxt">Momin</span>een^asws and he said, ‘O Amir Al-<span class="iTxt">Momin</span>een^asws! When was your^asws Lord^azwj (from)?’ He^asws said: ‘Woe be unto you! But rather, it is said, ‘When was it’, for what did not happen to be. So, as for what always was, so you cannot say when it was (from). He^azwj was before the ‘before’ without there being a ‘before’, and (will be) after the ‘after’ without there being an ‘after’, and there is no termination to an end-point to end His^azwj end-point’. So he said to him^asws, ‘Are you^asws a Prophet^as?’ So he^asws said: ‘For your mother be the bereavement! But rather, I^asws am a servant from the servants of Rasool-Allah^saww’.
