میں نے ان سے اللہ کے بارے میں پوچھا کہ کیا اسے بیان کیا جا سکتا ہے؟ تو انہوں نے فرمایا: 'کیا تم قرآن نہیں پڑھتے؟' میں نے کہا: 'ہاں۔' انہوں نے فرمایا: 'کیا تم نے اللہ تعالیٰ کا یہ قول نہیں پڑھا: «نگاہیں اسے نہیں پا سکتیں اور وہ نگاہوں کو پاتا ہے» [6:103]؟' میں نے کہا: 'ہاں۔' انہوں نے فرمایا: 'تو کیا تم نگاہوں کو جانتے ہو؟' میں نے کہا: 'ہاں۔' انہوں نے فرمایا: 'وہ کیا ہیں؟' میں نے کہا: 'آنکھوں کی نگاہیں۔' تو انہوں نے فرمایا: 'بے شک دلوں کے وہم آنکھوں کی نگاہوں سے بڑے ہیں، تو وہ ذات ایسی ہے کہ وہم اسے ادراک نہیں کر سکتے، اور وہ ذات وہموں کو ادراک کرتی ہے۔'

Translation

Muhammad Bin yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Abu Hashim Al Ja’fary, (It has been narrated) from Abu Al-Hassan Al-Reza^asws, said, ‘I asked him^asws about Allah^azwj, can He^azwj be described?’ So he^asws said: ‘Did you not read the Words of the Exalted <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:6#h103"><a href="/books/quran:6#h103">[6:103]</a></a> Visions cannot comprehend Him, and He Comprehends (all) visions</span>?’ I said, ‘Yes’. He^asws said: ‘So are you recognising the ‘visions’?’ I said, ‘Yes’. He^asws said: ‘What are these?’ I said, ‘Visions of the eyes’. So he^asws said: ‘The imaginations of the hearts are greater than the visions of the eyes. So He^azwj is such that the imaginations cannot comprehend Him^azwj and He^azwj Comprehends the imaginations (of the creatures)’.
