Al-Kafi 2858

Translation

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from Muhammad Bin Isa, from Yunus, from Abdullah Bin Bukeyr, from Zurara, (It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’far^asws, said, ‘Salim Bin Abu Hafs and his companions were mentioned in his^asws presence, so he (the narrator) said: ‘They are denying that the ones who battled against Ali^asws were Polytheists (<span class="iTxt">Mushrik</span>)’. So Abu Ja’far^asws said: ‘So they are claiming that they were Unbelivers (<span class="iTxt">Kafir</span>)’. Then he<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> said to me: ‘The disbelief (<span class="iTxt">Kufr</span>) was earlier than the association (<span class="iTxt">Shirk</span>)’. Then he<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> mentioned: ‘Iblees<sup style="font-weight: normal">la</sup> disbelieved where He<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup> Told him<sup style="font-weight: normal">la</sup> to prostrate, but he<sup style="font-weight: normal">la</sup> refused to prostrate’. And he<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> said: ‘The disbelief (<span class="iTxt">Kufr</span>) occurred earlier than the association (<span class="iTxt">Shirk</span>). So the one who is audacious upon Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup> and refuses the obedience, and stands upon the major sin, so he is a Unbeliver (<span class="iTxt">Kafir</span>), meaning the incognito (disguised) Unbeliver (<span class="iTxt">Kafir</span>)’.
