قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَى مُوسَى ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّ عِبَادِي لَمْ يَتَقَرَّبُوا إِلَيَّ بِشَيْءٍ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ ثَلَاثِ خِصَالٍ قَالَ مُوسَى يَا رَبِّ وَ مَا هُنَّ قَالَ يَا مُوسَى الزُّهْدُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ الْوَرَعُ عَنِ الْمَعَاصِي وَ الْبُكَاءُ مِنْ خَشْيَتِي قَالَ مُوسَى يَا رَبِّ فَمَا لِمَنْ صَنَعَ ذَا فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَيْهِ يَا مُوسَى أَمَّا الزَّاهِدُونَ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَفِي الْجَنَّةِ وَ أَمَّا الْبَكَّاءُونَ مِنْ خَشْيَتِي فَفِي الرَّفِيعِ الْأَعْلَى لَا يُشَارِكُهُمْ أَحَدٌ وَ أَمَّا الْوَرِعُونَ عَنْ مَعَاصِيَّ فَإِنِّي أُفَتِّشُ النَّاسَ وَ لَا أُفَتِّشُهُمْ .
Translation
Ibn Abu Umeyr, from a man from our companions who said, ‘Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic Revealed unto Musa<sup>as</sup>: “My<sup>azwj</sup> servants would not (be able to) come closer to Me<sup>azwj</sup> with anything more Beloved to Me<sup>azwj</sup> than three characteritics”. Musa<sup>as</sup> said: ‘And what are these?’ He<sup>azwj</sup> Said: “O Musa<sup>as</sup>! (These are) the asceticism (avoiding indulgence) in the world, and the piety from the disobedience, and the weeping from My<sup>azwj</sup> fear”. Musa<sup>as</sup>! O Lord<sup>azwj</sup>! So what is for the one who does that?’ So Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic Revealed unto him<sup>as</sup>: “O Musa<sup>as</sup>! As for the ascetic ones in the world, so they would be in the Paradise; and as for ones weeping from My<sup>azwj</sup> fear, so they would be in the lofty positions, no one would be participating with them; and as for the ones pious from My<sup>azwj</sup> disobedience, so I<sup>azwj</sup> will be Examining the people and would not be Examining them”’.
