قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ هَلْ جُعِلَ فِي النَّاسِ أَدَاةٌ يَنَالُونَ بِهَا الْمَعْرِفَةَ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَا قُلْتُ فَهَلْ كُلِّفُوا الْمَعْرِفَةَ قَالَ لَا عَلَى اللَّهِ الْبَيَانُ لا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْساً إِلَّا وُسْعَها وَ لا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْساً إِلَّا ما آتاها قَالَ وَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ قَوْلِهِ وَ ما كانَ اللَّهُ لِيُضِلَّ قَوْماً بَعْدَ إِذْ هَداهُمْ حَتَّى يُبَيِّنَ لَهُمْ ما يَتَّقُونَ قَالَ حَتَّى يُعَرِّفَهُمْ مَا يُرْضِيهِ وَ مَا يُسْخِطُهُ .

میں نے ابو عبد اللہ علیہ السلام سے عرض کیا: 'اللہ آپ کو سلامت رکھے! کیا لوگوں میں کوئی ایسی صلاحیت رکھی گئی ہے جس سے وہ معرفت حاصل کر سکیں؟' راوی نے کہا: تو آپ نے فرمایا: 'نہیں۔' میں نے عرض کیا: 'تو کیا ان کو معرفت کا مکلف کیا گیا ہے؟' آپ نے فرمایا: 'نہیں۔ اللہ پر بیان (وضاحت) واجب ہے۔' اللہ کسی نفس کو اس کی وسعت سے زیادہ تکلیف نہیں دیتا [2:286]، اور اللہ کسی نفس پر بوجھ نہیں ڈالتا مگر اس کے مطابق جو اس نے اسے عطا فرمایا ہو [65:7]۔ راوی نے کہا: اور میں نے ان سے اللہ کے اس قول کے بارے میں پوچھا: 'اللہ نے کسی قوم کو ہدایت کے بعد گمراہ نہیں کیا جب تک کہ وہ انہیں بیان نہ کرے جن چیزوں سے انہیں بچنا ہے [9:115]۔' آپ نے فرمایا: 'یہاں تک کہ وہ انہیں بتائے جو اسے خوش کرتا ہے اور جو اسے ناراض کرتا ہے۔'
Translation
And by this chain, from Yunus, from Hammad, from Abdul A’ala who said, ‘I said to Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup>, ‘May Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Keep you<sup>asws</sup> well! Has there Made to be in the people a tool by which they can attain the recognition?’ So he<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘No’. He said, ‘So is He<sup>azwj</sup> Encumbering the recognition?’ He<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘No. Upon Allah<sup>azwj</sup> is the Clarification. <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:2#h286"><a href="/books/quran:2#h286">[2:286]</a></a> Allah does not impose upon any soul a duty but to the extent of its ability</span>. <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:65#h7"><a href="/books/quran:65#h7">[65:7]</a></a> Allah does not lay on any soul a burden except to the extent to which He has granted it</span>’. He (the narrator) said, ‘And I asked him<sup>asws</sup> about His<sup>azwj</sup> Words <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:9#h115"><a href="/books/quran:9#h115">[9:115]</a></a> It was not for Allah that He should Lead a people astray after He has Guided them; until He Clarifies to them what they should guard against</span>. He<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘Until He<sup>azwj</sup> Introduces to them what Pleases Him<sup>azwj</sup> and what Angers Him<sup>azwj</sup>’.
