كَانَ النَّاسُ يَعْتَبِطُونَ اعْتِبَاطاً فَقَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ ( عليه السلام ) يَا رَبِّ لَوْ جَعَلْتَ لِلْمَوْتِ عِلَّةً يُعْرَفُ بِهَا وَ يُسَلَّى عَنِ الْمُصَابِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ الْمُومَ وَ هُوَ الْبِرْسَامُ ثُمَّ أَنْزَلَ الدَّاءَ بَعْدَهُ .

محمد بن یحیی نے احمد بن محمد بن عیسیٰ سے، انہوں نے ابن فضال سے، انہوں نے عاصم بن حمید سے، انہوں نے سعد بن طریف سے، انہوں نے ابو جعفر علیہ السلام سے روایت کی کہ آپ نے فرمایا: لوگ اچانک (بغیر کسی ظاہری سبب کے) مر جاتے تھے۔ تو ابراہیم علیہ السلام نے عرض کیا: اے میرے رب! کاش آپ موت کے لیے کوئی علت مقرر فرماتے جس سے اسے پہچانا جا سکے اور مصیبت زدہ کو تسلی ہو سکے۔ پس اللہ عزوجل نے مُوم نازل فرمایا اور وہ برسام (ذات الجنب) ہے، پھر اس کے بعد دوا اتاری۔
Translation
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Ibn Fazzal, from Aasin Bin Humeyd, from Sa’ad Bin Tareyf, (It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’far<sup>asws</sup> having said: ‘The people were dying arbitrarily, so Ibrahim<sup>as</sup> said: ‘O Lord<sup>azwj</sup>! If only You<sup>azwj</sup> Make a cause to be for the death for it to be recognised by, and for the affected ones to be consoled by’. So Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic Sent down the serious illness, and it is the pleurisy. Then He<sup>azwj</sup> Sent down the cure after it’.
