علی بن ابراہیم نے محمد بن عیسیٰ سے، انہوں نے یونس سے، انہوں نے یزید بن خلیفہ سے روایت کی، انہوں نے کہا: میں نے ابو عبداللہ علیہ السلام سے کہا: 'عمر بن حنظلہ آپ کی طرف سے ہمارے پاس ایک وقت لے کر آئے۔' تو ابو عبداللہ علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: 'تب وہ ہمارے اوپر جھوٹ نہیں بولتے۔' میں نے کہا: 'انہوں نے ذکر کیا کہ آپ نے فرمایا: بے شک پہلی نماز جو اللہ نے اپنے نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ پر فرض کی وہ ظہر ہے، اور یہ اللہ عز و جل کا فرمان ہے: [17:78] سورج ڈھلنے سے نماز قائم کرو۔ پس جب سورج ڈھل جائے تو تمہیں نفل نماز کے سوا کوئی چیز نہیں روکتی۔ پھر تم وقت میں رہتے ہو یہاں تک کہ سایہ ایک قامت ہو جائے، اور یہ وقت کا آخر ہے۔ پس جب سایہ ایک قامت ہو جائے تو عصر کا وقت داخل ہو جاتا ہے اور تم عصر کے وقت میں رہتے ہو یہاں تک کہ سایہ دو قامت ہو جائے، اور وہ شام ہے۔ تو آپ نے فرمایا: 'اس نے سچ کہا۔'

Translation

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from Muhammad Bin Isa, from Yunus, from Yazeed Bin Khaleefa who said, ‘I said to Abu Abdullah^asws, ‘Umar Bin Hanzala came over to us from you^asws with the timing’. So Abu Abdullah^asws said: ‘Then, he would not have lied upon us^asws’. I said, ‘He mentioned that you^asws said that the first <span class="iTxt">Salāt</span> Allah^azwj Necessitated upon His^azwj Prophet^saww was Al-Zohr, and these are the Words of Allah^azwj Mighty and Majestic <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:17#h78"><a href="/books/quran:17#h78">[17:78]</a></a> Establish the Prayer from the declining of the sun</span>. So when the sun (starts to) decline, then nothing prevents you except for your Optional (<span class="iTxt">Salāt</span>). Then you do not cease to be in the timing up to the upright shadow (same length as the upright object), and it is the end of the time. So when the shadow becomes upright, the time of Al-Asr enters, and you do not cease to be in the time of Al-Asr until the shadow comes to be of two upright statures (in length), and that is the evening’. So he^asws said: ‘He spoke the truth’.
