علی بن محمد نے سہل بن زیاد سے، انہوں نے علی بن مہزیار سے روایت کی کہ انہوں نے کہا: ابو الحسن بن الحصین نے میرے ذریعے ابو جعفر ثانی علیہ السلام کو لکھا: 'میں آپ پر قربان جاؤں! آپ کے موالی نماز فجر کے بارے میں اختلاف کر رہے ہیں۔ ان میں سے بعض اس وقت نماز پڑھتے ہیں جب پہلی فجر آسمان میں لمبائی میں طلوع ہوتی ہے، اور بعض اس وقت جب وہ افق کے نچلے حصے میں افقی طور پر پھیل جاتی ہے اور واضح ہو جاتی ہے۔ میں دونوں اوقات میں سے بہتر کو نہیں پہچانتا۔ اگر آپ مناسب سمجھیں تو مجھے بہتر وقت بتائیں اور اس کی حد مقرر کریں، نیز چاند، بادل اور سفر و اقامت میں کیا کروں — ان شاء اللہ ایسا ہی کروں گا۔' تو آپ نے اپنے ہاتھ سے لکھا اور میں نے پڑھا: 'فجر — اللہ آپ پر رحم کرے — وہ سفید افقی لکیر ہے۔ یہ وہ سفیدی نہیں جو سیدھی اوپر چڑھتی ہے۔ پس سفر میں ہو یا اقامت میں، جب تک اسے واضح طور پر نہ پہچانو نماز نہ پڑھو۔' کیونکہ اللہ تبارک و تعالیٰ نے اپنی مخلوق کو اس معاملے میں شبہ میں نہیں ڈالا۔ اس نے فرمایا: «کھاؤ اور پیو یہاں تک کہ فجر کا سفید دھاگا سیاہ دھاگے سے ممتاز ہو جائے۔» [2:187] پس سفید دھاگا وہ افقی ہے جس سے روزے میں کھانا پینا حرام ہو جاتا ہے، اور اسی طرح یہی وہ ہے جس سے نماز واجب ہوتی ہے۔

Translation

Ali Bin Muhammad, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Ali Bin Mahziyar who said, ‘Abu Al-Hassan Bin Al-Husayn wrote to Abu Ja’far^asws the 2^nd along with me, ‘May I be sacrificed for you^asws! The ones in your^asws Wilayah are differing regarding Al-Fajr <span class="iTxt">Salāt</span>. So, from them is one who is praying when the dawn emerges as the first elongation in the sky, and from them is the one who prays when presents it itself in the bottom of the horizon and is clear, and I do not understand the preference of the two timings so that I can pray during it. So if you^asws view that you^asws should teach me the preference of the two timings and its limit to me, and how I should deal with it when there are clouds about, and what is the limit of that during the journey and the staying, do so, Allah^azwj Willing’. So he^asws wrote by his^asws own handwriting, and I read it: ‘The dawn, may Allah^azwj have Mercy on you, is the white line, the horizontal. It is not the vertical whiteness. Therefore, do not pray <span class="iTxt">Salāt</span>, neither during a journey nor during a staying until it is clear, for Allah^azwj Blessed and High never Made His^azwj creatures to be in doubt from this, so He^azwj Said <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:2#h187"><a href="/books/quran:2#h187">[2:187]</a></a> and eat and drink until the white thread becomes distinct from the black thread at Dawn</span>. So the white thread, it is the horizontal (white line) by which the eating and the drinking is Prohibited during the Fasting, and similar to that, it is that which the <span class="iTxt">Salāt</span> is Obligated by’.
