كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِذَا أَفْطَرَ بَدَأَ بِحَلْوَاءَ يُفْطِرُ عَلَيْهَا فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَسُكَّرَةٍ أَوْ تَمَرَاتٍ فَإِذَا أَعْوَزَ ذَلِكَ كُلُّهُ فَمَاءٍ فَاتِرٍ وَ كَانَ يَقُولُ يُنَقِّي الْمَعِدَةَ وَ الْكَبِدَ وَ يُطَيِّبُ النَّكْهَةَ وَ الْفَمَ وَ يُقَوِّي الْأَضْرَاسَ وَ يُقَوِّي الْحَدَقَ وَ يَجْلُو النَّاظِرَ وَ يَغْسِلُ الذُّنُوبَ غَسْلًا وَ يُسَكِّنُ الْعُرُوقَ الْهَائِجَةَ وَ الْمِرَّةَ الْغَالِبَةَ وَ يَقْطَعُ الْبَلْغَمَ وَ يُطْفِئُ الْحَرَارَةَ عَنِ الْمَعِدَةِ وَ يَذْهَبُ بِالصُّدَاعِ .
Translation
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Muhammad Bin Ahmad, from the one who mentioned it, from Mansour Bin Al Abbas, from Safwan Bin Yahya, from Abdullah Bin Muskan, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> having said: ‘Rasool-Allah<sup>saww</sup>, whenever he<sup>saww</sup> broke a Fast, began with a sweet, breaking upon it. So if he<sup>saww</sup> could not find, so a (lump of) sugar, or dates. So if all of that was not available, so lukewarm water; and he<sup>saww</sup> was saying: ‘It cleans the stomach and the liver, and aromatises the breath and the mouth, and it strengthens the teeth, and strengthens the glare, and polishes the vision, and washes the sins with a washing, and settles the veins and the gallbladder, and the overcoming bitterness, and cuts the phlegm, and extinguishes the heat from the stomach, and removes the headaches’.
