كُنْتُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فَقُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) إِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَعْتَكِفَ فَمَا ذَا أَقُولُ وَ مَا ذَا أَفْرِضُ عَلَى نَفْسِي فَقَالَ لَا تَخْرُجْ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ إِلَّا لِحَاجَةٍ لَا بُدَّ مِنْهَا وَ لَا تَقْعُدْ تَحْتَ ظِلَالٍ حَتَّى تَعُودَ إِلَى مَجْلِسِكَ .
Translation
A number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Dawood Bin Sirhan who said, ‘I was in Al-Medina during a Month of Ramazan. So I said to Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup>, ‘I intend to perform <span class="iTxt">Itikaaf</span>, so what is that I should be saying, and what is that I should necessitate upon myself?’ So he<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘You cannot go out from the Masjid except for a need being inevitable from it, nor can you sit beneath a shade until you return to your seat’.
