Al-Kafi 72

علی بن محمد بن عبداللہ نے احمد بن محمد سے، انہوں نے محمد بن خالد سے، انہوں نے سلیمان بن جعفر الجعفری سے، انہوں نے اس سے جس نے اسے ذکر کیا، انہوں نے ابو عبداللہ علیہ السلام سے روایت کی کہ انہوں نے فرمایا: امیر المومنین علیہ السلام فرمایا کرتے تھے: بے شک عالم کے حقوق میں سے ہے کہ اس پر سوالات کی کثرت نہ کرو، اور اس کے کپڑے نہ پکڑو؛ اور جب تم اس کے پاس داخل ہو اور وہاں ایک جماعت موجود ہو، تو سب کو سلام کرو، مگر اسے خاص تحیہ سے نوازو اور اس کے سامنے بیٹھو اور پیچھے نہ بیٹھو۔ نہ آنکھ سے اشارہ کرو، نہ ہاتھ سے، اور نہ کثرت سے یہ کہو کہ 'فلاں نے یہ کہا اور فلاں نے وہ کہا' اس کے قول کے خلاف، اور اس کی طولانی صحبت سے اکتاؤ نہیں؛ کیونکہ عالم کی مثال کھجور کے درخت جیسی ہے — تم اس کا انتظار کرتے ہو یہاں تک کہ اس سے کچھ تم پر گرے۔ اور عالم کا اجر روزہ دار، قائم اور اللہ کی راہ میں غازی سے زیادہ ہے۔

Translation

Ali Bin Muhammad Bin Abdullah, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Muhammad Bin Khalid, from Suleyman Bin Ja’far Al Ja’fary, from the one who mentioned it, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah^asws having said: ‘Amir Al-Momineen^asws was saying: ‘From the rights of the scholar is that the questioning should not be frequented upon him, nor should he be seized by his clothes; and when you go over to him and in his presence is a group, so greet upon them altogether, and particularise him with the greetings besides them, and sit in front of him and do not sit behind him. And neither close your eyes nor gesture with your hands nor frequent from the speech saying, ‘So and so said such, and so and so said such differently to your words’, nor bore him with the prolongation of being in his company, for rather, the example of the scholar is like the palm tree. You wait for it until something from it falls upon you; and a scholar will have a greater Recompense than the Fasting one, standing, fighting in the Way of Allah^azwj’.
