قُلْتُ لَهُ إِنْ كَانَ كَوْنٌ وَ لَا أَرَانِي اللَّهُ ذَلِكَ فَبِمَنْ أَئْتَمُّ قَالَ فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَى ابْنِهِ مُوسَى ( عليه السلام ) قُلْتُ فَإِنْ حَدَثَ بِمُوسَى حَدَثٌ فَبِمَنْ أَئْتَمُّ قَالَ بِوَلَدِهِ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ حَدَثَ بِوَلَدِهِ حَدَثٌ وَ تَرَكَ أَخاً كَبِيراً وَ ابْناً صَغِيراً فَبِمَنْ أَئْتَمُّ قَالَ بِوَلَدِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا أَبَداً قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ وَ لَا أَعْرِفْ مَوْضِعَهُ قَالَ تَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَتَوَلَّى مَنْ بَقِيَ مِنْ حُجَجِكَ مِنْ وُلْدِ الْإِمَامِ الْمَاضِي فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ يُجْزِيكَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

محمد بن یحیی، محمد بن الحسین سے، عبد الرحمن بن ابی نجران سے، عیسیٰ بن عبد اللہ بن محمد بن عمر بن علی بن ابی طالب سے، ابو عبد اللہ (علیہ السلام) سے، جنہوں نے فرمایا: میں نے ان سے عرض کیا: "اگر کوئی واقعہ پیش آ جائے—اور اللہ مجھے وہ نہ دکھائے—تو پھر میں کس کو امام مانوں؟" انہوں نے فرمایا: انہوں نے اپنے بیٹے موسیٰ (علیہ السلام) کی طرف اشارہ کیا۔ میں نے عرض کیا: "اگر موسیٰ کے ساتھ کوئی واقعہ پیش آ جائے، تو پھر میں کس کو امام مانوں؟" انہوں نے فرمایا: "اس کے بیٹے کو۔" میں نے عرض کیا: "اگر اس کے بیٹے کے ساتھ کوئی واقعہ پیش آ جائے، اور وہ ایک بڑے بھائی اور ایک چھوٹا بیٹا چھوڑ جائے، تو پھر میں کس کو امام مانوں؟" انہوں نے فرمایا: "اس کے بیٹے کو۔" پھر انہوں نے فرمایا: "یوں ہی ہمیشہ رہے گا۔" میں نے عرض کیا: "اگر میں اسے نہ پہچانوں، اور نہ اس کے مقام کو جانوں؟" انہوں نے فرمایا: "تم یہ کہو: اے اللہ! میں تیرے حجتوں میں سے جو باقی رہ گئے ہیں، گزشتہ امام کی اولاد میں سے، ان سے ولایت رکھتا ہوں۔ بے شک یہ تمہیں کافی ہوگا، اگر اللہ چاہے۔"
Translation
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Muhammad Bin Al Husayn, from Abdul Rahman Bin Abu Najran, (It has been narrated) from Isa Bin Abdullah Bin Muhammad Bin Umar, son of Ali<sup>asws</sup> Bin Abu Talib<sup>asws</sup>, from Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup>, said, ‘I said to him<sup>asws</sup>, ‘If it does happen, and may Allah<sup>azwj</sup> not Show me that, so with one should I take as an Imam<sup>asws</sup>?’ So he<sup>asws</sup> gestured towards his<sup>asws</sup> son<sup>asws</sup> Musa<sup>asws</sup>’. I said, ‘So if It occurs with Musa<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> an occurrence (of death), so with whom should I take as an Imam<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup>?’ He<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> said: ‘With his<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> son<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup>’. I said, ‘Supposing there occurs with his<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> son<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> an occurrence (of death), and he<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> leaves a lot of brothers and young sons, so with whom should I take as an Imam<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup>?’ He<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> said: ‘With his<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> son<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup>’. Then he<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> said: ‘This is how it will be for ever!’. I said, ‘Supposing I do not reconise him<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> nor do I recognise his<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> place?’ He<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> said: ‘You should be saying, ‘O Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup>! I hereby take as a Guardian the one<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> who remains from Your<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup> Divine Authority, from a son<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup> of the past Imam<sup style="font-weight: normal">asws</sup>’. So that would suffice you, if Allah<sup style="font-weight: normal">azwj</sup> so Desires’.
