Translation

Abu Ali Al Ashary, from Muhammad Bin Abdul Jabbar, from Ahmad Bin Al Nazar, from Amro Bin Shimr, from Jabir, (It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’farasws having said: ‘When Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic Revealed unto Rasool-Allahsaww <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:5#h90"><a href="/books/quran:5#h90">[5:90]</a></a> O you who believe! But rather the Intoxicants and games of chance and (sacrificing to) stones set up and (dividing by) arrows are only an uncleanness, the Satan's work; therefore keep away from it</span>, it was said, ‘O Rasool-Allahsaww! What are <span class="ibTxt">games of chance</span>?’ So hesaww said: ‘Whatever is gambled with, even if it is the cooked food and the walnuts’. It was said, ‘So what are the <span class="ibTxt">stones set up</span>?’ Hesaww said: ‘Whatever is sacrificed for their gods’. It was said, ‘So what the <span class="iTxt">dividing arrows</span>?’ Hesaww said: ‘Their flints (iron bars to stoke the fire with) which they used to do their apportionments with’.
