Al-Kafi 9761

Translation

A number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad and Ali Bin Ibrahim, form his father, altogether from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Abu Nsr who said, ‘I said to Abu Al-Hassan^asws, ‘(What about) the words of Shuayb^as <span class="iTxt">‘</span><span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:28#h27"><a href="/books/quran:28#h27">[28:27]</a></a> He said: I would like to marry one of these two daughters of mine to you on condition that you should serve me for eight years; but if you complete ten, it will be of your own free will</span> whichever of the two terms you^as fulfill?’ He^asws said: ‘The completion from these two was the furthest of the two, ten years’. I said, ‘So he^as went to her before he^as fulfilled the condition, or after fulfilling it?’ He^asws said: ‘Before he fulfilled it’. I said to him^asws, ‘So the man marries the woman, and stipulates to her father the wages of two months, would that be allowed?’ So he^asws said: ‘Musa^as knew that he^as complete his^as stipulation for him^as, but how can it be for this one that he would know that he would remain (alive) until he can fulfil for him? And the man upon the era of Rasool-Allah^saww used to get married to the woman upon the Chapter from the Quran, and upon the Dirham, and upon the handful of the wheat’.
