Surah Al-Muddaththir

Uthmani — Hafs

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡمُدَّثِّرُ ﴿١﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

اے اوڑھ لپیٹ کر لیٹنے والے

The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab

O you covered up ˹in your clothes˺

Uthmani — Hafs

قُمۡ فَأَنذِرۡ ﴿٢﴾

اٹھو اور خبردار کرو

Arise and warn ˹all˺

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرۡ ﴿٣﴾

اور اپنے رب کی بڑائی کا اعلان کرو

Revere your Lord ˹alone˺

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرۡ ﴿٤﴾

اور اپنے کپڑے پاک رکھو

Purify your garments

وَٱلرُّجۡزَ فَٱهۡجُرۡ ﴿٥﴾

اور گندگی سے دور رہو

˹Continue to˺ shun idols

Uthmani — Hafs

وَلَا تَمۡنُن تَسۡتَكۡثِرُ ﴿٦﴾

اور احسان نہ کرو زیادہ حاصل کرنے کے لیے

Do not do a favour expecting more ˹in return˺

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصۡبِرۡ ﴿٧﴾

اور اپنے رب کی خاطر صبر کرو

And persevere for ˹the sake of˺ your Lord

فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي ٱلنَّاقُورِ ﴿٨﴾

اچھا، جب صور میں پھونک ماری جائے گی

˹For˺ when the Trumpet will be sounded

Uthmani — Hafs

فَذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ يَوۡمٌ عَسِيرٌ ﴿٩﴾

وہ دن بڑا ہی سخت دن ہوگا

that will ˹truly˺ be a difficult Day—

عَلَى ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ غَيۡرُ يَسِيرࣲ‏ ﴿١٠﴾

کافروں کے لیے ہلکا نہ ہوگا

far from easy for the disbelievers

ذَرۡنِي وَمَنۡ خَلَقۡتُ وَحِيدࣰ ا ﴿١١﴾

چھوڑ دو مجھے اور اُس شخص کو جسے میں نے اکیلا پیدا کیا ہے

And leave to me ˹O Prophet˺ the one I created all by Myself

وَجَعَلۡتُ لَهُۥ مَالࣰ ا مَّمۡدُودࣰ ا ﴿١٢﴾

بہت سا مال اُس کو دیا

and granted him abundant wealth

وَبَنِينَ شُهُودࣰ ا ﴿١٣﴾

اس کے ساتھ حاضر رہنے والے بیٹے دیے

and children always by his side

وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمۡهِيدࣰ ا ﴿١٤﴾

اور اس کے لیے ریاست کی راہ ہموار کی

and made life very easy for him

ثُمَّ يَطۡمَعُ أَنۡ أَزِيدَ ﴿١٥﴾

پھر وہ طمع رکھتا ہے کہ میں اسے اور زیادہ دوں

Yet he is hungry for more

كَلَّآۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِأٓيَٰتِنَا عَنِيدࣰ ا ﴿١٦﴾

ہرگز نہیں، وہ ہماری آیات سے عناد رکھتا ہے

But no! ˹For˺ he has been truly stubborn with Our revelations

سَأُرۡهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا ﴿١٧﴾

میں تو اسے عنقریب ایک کٹھن چڑھائی چڑھواؤں گا

I will make his fate unbearable

إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ ﴿١٨﴾

اس نے سوچا اور کچھ بات بنانے کی کوشش کی

for he contemplated and determined ˹a degrading label for the Quran˺

فَقُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ ﴿١٩﴾

تو خدا کی مار اس پر، کیسی بات بنانے کی کوشش کی

May he be condemned! How evil was what he determined

ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ ﴿٢٠﴾

ہاں، خدا کی مار اُس پر، کیسی بات بنانے کی کوشش کی

May he be condemned even more! How evil was what he determined

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ ﴿٢١﴾

پھر (لوگوں کی طرف) دیکھا

Then he re-contemplated ˹in frustration˺

ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ ﴿٢٢﴾

پھر پیشانی سیکڑی اور منہ بنایا

then frowned and scowled

ثُمَّ أَدۡبَرَ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرَ ﴿٢٣﴾

پھر پلٹا اور تکبر میں پڑ گیا

then turned his back ˹on the truth˺ and acted arrogantly

فَقَالَ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحۡرࣱ يُؤۡثَرُ ﴿٢٤﴾

آخرکار بولا کہ یہ کچھ نہیں ہے مگر ایک جادو جو پہلے سے چلا آ رہا ہے

saying, “This ˹Quran˺ is nothing but magic from the ancients

إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوۡلُ ٱلۡبَشَرِ ﴿٢٥﴾

یہ تو یہ ایک انسانی کلام ہے

This is no more than the word of a man.”

سَأُصۡلِيهِ سَقَرَ ﴿٢٦﴾

عنقریب میں اسے دوزخ میں جھونک دوں گا

Soon I will burn him in Hell

Uthmani — Hafs

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ ﴿٢٧﴾

اور تم کیا جانو کہ کیا ہے وہ دوزخ؟

And what will make you realize what Hell is

لَا تُبۡقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ ﴿٢٨﴾

نہ باقی رکھے نہ چھوڑے

It does not let anyone live or die

لَوَّاحَةࣱ لِّلۡبَشَرِ ﴿٢٩﴾

کھال جھلس دینے والی

scorching the skin

Uthmani — Hafs

عَلَيۡهَا تِسۡعَةَ عَشَرَ ﴿٣٠﴾

انیس کارکن اُس پر مقرر ہیں

It is overseen by nineteen ˹keepers˺

وَمَا جَعَلۡنَآ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَٰٓئِكَةࣰۖ وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا عِدَّتَهُمۡ إِلَّا فِتۡنَةࣰ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لِيَسۡتَيۡقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَيَزۡدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِيمَٰنࣰ ا وَلَا يَرۡتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضࣱ وَٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلࣰ اۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهۡدِي مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَمَا يَعۡلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَۚ وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡبَشَرِ ﴿٣١﴾

ہم نے دوزخ کے یہ کارکن فرشتے بنائے ہیں، اور ان کی تعداد کو کافروں کے لیے فتنہ بنا دیا ہے، تاکہ اہل کتاب کو یقین آ جائے اور ایمان لانے والوں کا ایمان بڑھے، اور اہل کتاب اور مومنین کسی شک میں نہ رہیں، اور دل کے بیمار اور کفار یہ کہیں کہ بھلا اللہ کا اِس عجیب بات سے کیا مطلب ہو سکتا ہے اِس طرح اللہ جسے چاہتا ہے گمراہ کر دیتا ہے اور جسے چاہتا ہے ہدایت بخش دیتا ہے اور تیرے رب کے لشکروں کو خود اُس کے سوا کوئی نہیں جانتا اور اس دوزخ کا ذکر اِس کے سوا کسی غرض کے لیے نہیں کیا گیا ہے کہ لوگوں کو اس سے نصیحت ہو

We have appointed only ˹stern˺ angels as wardens of the Fire. And We have made their number only as a test for the disbelievers, so that the People of the Book will be certain, and the believers will increase in faith, and neither the People of the Book nor the believers will have any doubts, and so that those ˹hypocrites˺ with sickness in their hearts and the disbelievers will argue, “What does Allah mean by such a number?” In this way Allah leaves whoever He wills to stray and guides whoever He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord except He. And this ˹description of Hell˺ is only a reminder to humanity

كَلَّا وَٱلۡقَمَرِ ﴿٣٢﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

ہرگز نہیں، قسم ہے چاند کی

But no! By the moon

وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذۡ أَدۡبَرَ ﴿٣٣﴾

اور رات کی جبکہ وہ پلٹتی ہے

and the night as it retreats

Uthmani — Hafs

وَٱلصُّبۡحِ إِذَآ أَسۡفَرَ ﴿٣٤﴾

اور صبح کی جبکہ وہ روشن ہوتی ہے

and the day as it breaks

Uthmani — Hafs

إِنَّهَا لَإِحۡدَى ٱلۡكُبَرِ ﴿٣٥﴾

یہ دوزخ بھی بڑی چیزوں میں سے ایک ہے

Surely Hell is one of the mightiest catastrophes—

نَذِيرࣰ ا لِّلۡبَشَرِ ﴿٣٦﴾

انسانوں کے لیے ڈراوا

a warning to humankind

Uthmani — Hafs

لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمۡ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوۡ يَتَأَخَّرَ ﴿٣٧﴾

تم میں سے ہر اُس شخص کے لیے ڈراوا جو آگے بڑھنا چاہے یا پیچھے رہ جانا چاہے

to whichever of you chooses to take the lead or lag behind

Uthmani — Hafs

كُلُّ نَفۡسِۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ رَهِينَةٌ ﴿٣٨﴾

ہر متنفس، اپنے کسب کے بدلے رہن ہے

Every soul will be detained for what it has done

Uthmani — Hafs

إِلَّآ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلۡيَمِينِ ﴿٣٩﴾

دائیں بازو والوں کے سوا

The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab

except the people of the right

Uthmani — Hafs

فِي جَنَّٰتࣲ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ﴿٤٠﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

جو جنتوں میں ہوں گے وہاں وہ،

The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab

who will be in Gardens, asking one another

Uthmani — Hafs

عَنِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ ﴿٤١﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

مجرموں سے پوچھیں گے

The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab

about the wicked ˹who will then be asked˺

Uthmani — Hafs

مَا سَلَكَكُمۡ فِي سَقَرَ ﴿٤٢﴾

تمہیں کیا چیز دوزخ میں لے گئی؟

“What has landed you in Hell?”

Uthmani — Hafs

قَالُواْ لَمۡ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُصَلِّينَ ﴿٤٣﴾

وہ کہیں گے "ہم نماز پڑھنے والوں میں سے نہ تھے

They will reply, “We were not of those who prayed

Uthmani — Hafs

وَلَمۡ نَكُ نُطۡعِمُ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينَ ﴿٤٤﴾

اور مسکین کو کھانا نہیں کھلاتے تھے

nor did we feed the poor

Uthmani — Hafs

وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلۡخَآئِضِينَ ﴿٤٥﴾

اور حق کے خلاف باتیں بنانے والوں کے ساتھ مل کر ہم بھی باتیں بنانے لگتے تھے

We used to indulge ˹in falsehood˺ along with others

وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ ﴿٤٦﴾

اور روز جزا کو جھوٹ قرار دیتے تھے

and deny the Day of Judgment

Uthmani — Hafs

حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلۡيَقِينُ ﴿٤٧﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

یہاں تک کہ ہمیں اُس یقینی چیز سے سابقہ پیش آ گیا

until the inevitable came to us.”

Uthmani — Hafs

فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمۡ شَفَٰعَةُ ٱلشَّٰفِعِينَ ﴿٤٨﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

اُس وقت سفارش کرنے والوں کی سفارش ان کے کسی کام نہ آئے گی

So the pleas of intercessors will be of no benefit to them

فَمَا لَهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلتَّذۡكِرَةِ مُعۡرِضِينَ ﴿٤٩﴾

آخر اِن لوگوں کو کیا ہو گیا ہے کہ یہ اِس نصیحت سے منہ موڑ رہے ہیں

Now, what is the matter with them that they are turning away from the reminder

كَأَنَّهُمۡ حُمُرࣱ مُّسۡتَنفِرَةࣱ‏ ﴿٥٠﴾

گویا یہ جنگلی گدھے ہیں

as if they were spooked zebras

Uthmani — Hafs

فَرَّتۡ مِن قَسۡوَرَةِۭ ﴿٥١﴾

جو شیر سے ڈر کر بھاگ پڑے ہیں

fleeing from a lion

Uthmani — Hafs

بَلۡ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمۡرِيࣲٕ مِّنۡهُمۡ أَن يُؤۡتَىٰ صُحُفࣰ ا مُّنَشَّرَةࣰ‏ ﴿٥٢﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

بلکہ اِن میں سے تو ہر ایک یہ چاہتا ہے کہ اُس کے نام کھلے خط بھیجے جائیں

In fact, each one of them wishes to be given a ˹personal˺ letter ˹from Allah˺ for all ˹to read˺

كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ ﴿٥٣﴾

ہرگز نہیں، اصل بات یہ ہے کہ یہ آخرت کا خوف نہیں رکھتے

But no! In fact, they do not fear the Hereafter

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذۡكِرَةࣱ‏ ﴿٥٤﴾

ہرگز نہیں، یہ تو ایک نصیحت ہے

Enough! Surely this ˹Quran˺ is a reminder

فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ ﴿٥٥﴾

اب جس کا جی چاہے اس سے سبق حاصل کر لے

So let whoever wills be mindful of it

وَمَا يَذۡكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُۚ هُوَ أَهۡلُ ٱلتَّقۡوَىٰ وَأَهۡلُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِ ﴿٥٦﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

اور یہ کوئی سبق حاصل نہ کریں گے الا یہ کہ اللہ ہی ایسا چاہے وہ اس کا حق دار ہے کہ اُس سے تقویٰ کیا جائے اور وہ اس کا اہل ہے کہ (تقویٰ کرنے والوں کو) بخش دے

But they cannot do so unless Allah wills. He ˹alone˺ is worthy to be feared and entitled to forgive
