Surah Al-Balad

Uthmani — Hafs

لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ ﴿١﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

نہیں، میں قسم کھاتا ہوں اِس شہر کی

The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab

I do swear by this city ˹of Mecca˺—

Uthmani — Hafs

وَأَنتَ حِلُّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ ﴿٢﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

اور حال یہ ہے کہ (اے نبیؐ) اِس شہر میں تم کو حلال کر لیا گیا ہے

The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab

even though you ˹O Prophet˺ are subject to abuse in this city—

Uthmani — Hafs

وَوَالِدࣲ وَمَا وَلَدَ ﴿٣﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

اور قسم کھاتا ہوں باپ کی اور اس اولاد کی جو اس سے پیدا ہوئی

and by every parent and ˹their˺ child

لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ فِي كَبَدٍ ﴿٤﴾

درحقیقت ہم نے انسان کو مشقت میں پیدا کیا ہے

Indeed, We have created humankind in ˹constant˺ struggle

Uthmani — Hafs

أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ أَحَدࣱ‏ ﴿٥﴾

کیا اُس نے یہ سمجھ رکھا ہے کہ اُس پر کوئی قابو نہ پا سکے گا؟

Do they think that no one has power over them

Uthmani — Hafs

يَقُولُ أَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالࣰ ا لُّبَدًا ﴿٦﴾

کہتا ہے کہ میں نے ڈھیروں مال اڑا دیا

boasting, “I have wasted enormous wealth!”

أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّمۡ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ ﴿٧﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

کیا وہ سمجھتا ہے کہ کسی نے اُس کو نہیں دیکھا؟

Do they think that no one sees them

Uthmani — Hafs

أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ عَيۡنَيۡنِ ﴿٨﴾

کیا ہم نے اُسے دو آنکھیں

Have We not given them two eyes

Uthmani — Hafs

وَلِسَانࣰ ا وَشَفَتَيۡنِ ﴿٩﴾

اور ایک زبان اور دو ہونٹ نہیں دیے؟

a tongue, and two lips

Uthmani — Hafs

وَهَدَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجۡدَيۡنِ ﴿١٠﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

اور دونوں نمایاں راستے اُسے (نہیں) دکھا دیے؟

and shown them the two ways ˹of right and wrong˺

Uthmani — Hafs

فَلَا ٱقۡتَحَمَ ٱلۡعَقَبَةَ ﴿١١﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

مگر اس نے دشوار گزار گھاٹی سے گزرنے کی ہمت نہ کی

If only they had attempted the challenging path ˹of goodness instead˺

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡعَقَبَةُ ﴿١٢﴾

اور تم کیا جانو کہ کیا ہے وہ دشوار گزار گھاٹی؟

And what will make you realize what ˹attempting˺ the challenging path is

فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ ﴿١٣﴾

کسی گردن کو غلامی سے چھڑانا

It is to free a slave

Uthmani — Hafs

أَوۡ إِطۡعَٰمࣱ فِي يَوۡمࣲ ذِي مَسۡغَبَةࣲ‏ ﴿١٤﴾

یا فاقے کے دن

or to give food in times of famine

Uthmani — Hafs

يَتِيمࣰ ا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍ ﴿١٥﴾

کسی قریبی یتیم

The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab

to an orphaned relative

Uthmani — Hafs

أَوۡ مِسۡكِينࣰ ا ذَا مَتۡرَبَةࣲ‏ ﴿١٦﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

یا خاک نشین مسکین کو کھانا کھلانا

or to a poor person in distress

Uthmani — Hafs

ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡمَرۡحَمَةِ ﴿١٧﴾

پھر (اس کے ساتھ یہ کہ) آدمی اُن لوگوں میں شامل ہو جو ایمان لائے اور جنہوں نے ایک دوسرے کو صبر اور (خلق خدا پر) رحم کی تلقین کی

and—above all—to be one of those who have faith and urge each other to perseverance and urge each other to compassion

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ ﴿١٨﴾

یہ لوگ ہیں دائیں بازو والے

The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab

These are the people of the right

Uthmani — Hafs

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمۡ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ ﴿١٩﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

اور جنہوں نے ہماری آیات کو ماننے سے انکار کیا وہ بائیں بازو والے ہیں

As for those who deny Our signs, they are the people of the left

عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَارࣱ مُّؤۡصَدَةُۢ ﴿٢٠﴾

Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi

ان پر آگ چھائی ہوئی ہوگی

The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab

The Fire will be sealed over them
