Christian Science is a living tradition within Christianity. Also written Church of Christ, Scientist, First Church of Christ, Scientist.
Origin
Founder named in the sources: Mary Baker Eddy. Founding date given as 1879. In 1879 Mary Baker Eddy (1821-1910) and fifteen followers established the Church of Christ, Scientist, aiming to restore what they regarded as primitive Christianity and its healing practice. Eddy published Science and Health, which she regarded as divinely inspired and as the textbook of Christian Science. In 1892 she reorganised the church into its present structure around The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston.
