Church of God in Christ is a living tradition within Pentecostalism. Also written COGIC.
Origin
Founder named in the sources: Charles Harrison Mason. No founding year is given below, because the sources read do not agree on one and a date has not been chosen for them. Britannica states that Charles H. Mason's founding role is acknowledged by both bodies bearing the name but that the date and place of the group's establishment are disputed. Mason led Holiness churches in Jackson, Mississippi, and Memphis, Tennessee, in the late 19th century; after receiving Spirit baptism at the Azusa Street mission he convened a General Assembly at Memphis about 1907, declared the body Pentecostal, and was elected general overseer of about 12 churches.
