Exclusive Brethren is a living tradition within Plymouth Brethren. Also written Darbyite Brethren.
Origin
Founder named in the sources: John Nelson Darby. No founding year is given below, because the sources read do not agree on one and a date has not been chosen for them. After Darby returned to England in 1845, disputes over doctrine and church government split the Brethren; Darby's followers formed a closely knit federation of churches known as Exclusive Brethren. Britannica dates the split to after 1845 without giving a year.
